The Jimmy Haslam Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There will be soon, the Ravens and Steelers come to Cleveland every year.
Let's remember that this years Steelers team, which may have been the worst team they have had in 30 years, finished above the Browns.

Holy shit, the post you responded too was from 10 years ago.

But thank you, i didnt remember saying that and i got to laugh at my own joke
Really have to wonder what happened to the guy you were replying to back in ‘13. Wonder if he ever got laid.

The fact that a certain percentage of the players are brutes, cretins, abusers, goons etc is a bug, a feature and I would argue inevitable. The financial and fame awards (I.e. winning the Super Bowl or the College Championship) mean there’s just too much incentives to let legit bad boys play even if their personal conduct is disgusting. Take the Bills Mafia (please!) — you think fans that slam chicks through plastic tables give a shit? They don’t, and a substantial portion of the NFL fanbase don’t give a shit either.
I don't know why you feel this way, but I'd love to pick your anus...I mean...Brain... on why you think this is the case!

Then build a fucking dome.

To be fair, he’s proper insanely rich guy who doesn’t spend his own money to make more money. He wouldn’t want to go upsetting all the other rich people by setting the precedent of using his own money to build it.

He already did that with the Watson signing. Also, unless the city let's him buy the land and own the stadium with no lease him building a dome on his own is a losing proposition. I agree that the billionaires should fit the bill but cities always want a piece of the pie in which case they should be somewhat vested as well.

Right, but it seems like you’re looking at these as two different things. They’re both investments in his business. Watson was going elsewhere without that guaranteed money. Haslam understood the cost of not adding a franchise level QB after what he’s seen over the years. He knew he had to step up with his money to get something he really wanted for the team, and something that would help bring people into said stadium for years to come, sell merchandise, etc.

If we’re making comparisons, the team needed Watson way more than the stadium needs a dome. That’s why Jimmy spent his money on Watson. If the Watson trade culminates in a couple deep playoff runs or more, Jimmy will make his money back in spades, both in revenue and in franchise valuation.

Also, the city owns the stadium but the Browns get the revenue from naming rights. Is t that kind of weird? I’m not sure that makes sense. Just tie a new naming rights deal to the funding of a roof if you want it that bad. Boom. Problem solved.

I feel like this has been talked about before, but I'm pretty sure the current stadium would not be able to support a dome/roof being installed. They would have to build an entirely new stadium if they wanted that.

The current stadium has so many other issues that a new dome wouldn’t even matter. Like putting lipstick on a pig. We still need a new stadium.

I have the solution. Tear down the fucking science center & Rock Hall. Build a stadium in that lot. Add in living areas, shopping, parking & itll be nice. Then relocate the previous tenants into one of the many abandoned building elsewhere.

Let’s tear down a building designed by one of the most famous architects of the last century to build a football stadium. Splendid idea.

The ideal solution is tearing down the current one and building a new one on the same site, maybe with some of the features you mentioned and integrating the Science Center and Rock Hall into it, but that would involve playing outside of Cleveland for a couple years. The Hall of Fame stadium is the only place they could play in the area but it’d be dramatically reduced seating capacity. Maybe Akron but that stadium isn’t as nice. Otherwise they’d have to play in Columbus.
