You left out OBJ who was not signed by the current regime.

They've drafted well in other areas. I suspect they'll use a relatively high pick on a WR but we'll see.
I was intentionally only referring to the guys this regime has brought in. Obviously OBJ and Landry were before

Right, but the presence of those two clearly affected the draft and free agent priorities.

So being as you apparently lack reading comprehension here is the 2nd sentence of my post

Hopefully its just because they have been tryign to fill other holes

But I dont see how the presensce of OBJ and Landry has any impact on making Hooper the highest paid TE in the league. Or spending a 3rd round pick on a guy that might not make the roster in year 2 (and this is a pretty terrible WR roster).

I mean theyve drafted ok. I wouldnt say they set the world on fire. Newsome & JOK look to be the real deal. Schwartz, DPJ are higher upside, but Hudson, Togiai, Fields, LeCounte, & Felton all look like JAGs. Go back to 2020 and Wills looks serviceable, but not #10 draft pick at LT worthy. Delpit I will hold off on. Bryant I like. The rest (Elliott, Phillips, Harris) all look like JAGs as well.

Berry & co have certainly raised the floor for player quality, but thats about it. Which is lightyears ahead of before.

On another note:
I will say, if they really want to try and contend; theyre going to be in a rough ass spot.
  1. Unless his team around him shits the bed or the org doesnt pay Adams, Rogers is likely staying put
  2. Wilson, looked meh this season, and will require likely two 1sts
  3. Watson, looked rapey this season and will still require two 1sts
You likely will then be without picks to nab a quality WR, based on play calling, I am not sure a #1 would come here. After last night, I guarantee some players are raising their eyebrows at the situation here. Last night was not a good look for the team; Baker play aside.

So that leaves a serious lack of quality WR play. Now, even if you get one of the QBs above....the offense will still struggle despite a major upgrade at QB. That is without addressing other holes on the team (TE, LB, DT, DE2, P, K, etc). Not sure we are a SB contender at that rate unless we fill the DT & LB with some serious A+ talent.

Not sure you can get anyone to take on Baker's deal, but somehow you need to get him off the roster unless you bring a QB in. Not sure who it is, but draft should not be the route this year unless its late AF & a solid starter quality vet is on board.

C'mon now.

Berry and Stefanski got hired in January of 2019.

At the time they inherited Jarvis Landry who was 28 years old and going into year 3 of a 5 year, 75M dollar deal. They also inherited Odell Beckham Jr. who was also 28 years old and going into year 2 of a 5 year, 90M dollar deal.

No team is spending a dime in free agency or even considering using a pick in the first two rounds on WRs with those guys locked in to those contracts.

Hooper plays a totally different position than them. The Browns didn't even have Bryant on the roster at the time they signed Hooper either. They only had Njoku and he was about to request a trade. TE was a priority in the offseason before the 2020 season. It's unfortunate that Hooper busted like he did, but the thought process behind the signing was sound.

Plus even though Hooper has been shitty, the Browns offense has a whole has been very good the last two seasons with 2 and 3 tight ends on the field at the same time, so I'd argue it wasn't as awful as it could have been.

I absolutely agree with this. There was so much money tied up in the WR room it was tough add anymore to it. The Browns absolutely needed an established TE at the time and Hooper was the best available guy on the market. While he’s been highly disappointing it was a move they had to make to give that position some stability.

I think their drafts have been decent but Schwartz is fighting for a roster spot next year and he was a 3rd round pick this year. On a team that is scraping the barrel for a WR, Schwartz is a ghost. Rest i agree with

There is nothing to come on here. It remains to be seen if Berry can actually evaluate and properly bring on receiving talent. Is that a false statement?

Because right now he has a lot more misses than hits. Obviously we need to see what he can do this off season, but right now the results dont look good

He's not fighting for a roster spot :chuckle:

Schwartz is 100 percent going to be on the 2022 Browns no matter who they draft or who they sign this offseason.

The Browns are unequivocally not cutting a 21-year-old 4.2 speed guy who is set to make all of $1.1M next year because he struggled as a rookie.

DPJ and Schwartz are both locks to return given their salaries alone. They might be WR4 and WR5 next year, but they're gonna be on the roster.

Hooper is still a decent starting level in-line tight end, he isn't a flashy player or worth the contract. At one point Monday night I wondered if the front office could flip him for a veteran backup QB on a bad contract like Nick Foles - hedging a bet on an extension to Baker.

It will be interesting to see how the front office regroups on offense.

Of course it's a false statement. He's picked a whopping total of 3 wide receivers/tight ends in two drafts and two of them have absolutely been hits relative to their draft slot :chuckle:

The only move Berry has made from from a pass catcher perspective that appears like it's going to end up being a big bust is Hooper.
