Close friend of Stefanski - could he agree to a "get right" role with the Browns?

No team is spending a dime in free agency or even considering using a pick in the first two rounds on WRs with those guys locked in to those contracts.

There were reports that we were considering drafting Lamb last year if there was a run on LTs prior to our pick. And I would have been totally fine with that. Not only has Baker already played with him, but he's probably the second best WR prospect from the past half decade after Chase.

You're pretty selective about which official statements you choose to believe.

Gotta try and match actions with words.

The Browns have had two opportunities to discuss a contract extension with Baker Mayfield and have opted not to extend him. They say they believe in him because they don't really have a choice otherwise.

There's not a significant amount of data points for a team to let a QB play out his rookie contract including the option, ya know?

Stefanski can improve, and I think he will.

Players need to make plays. Seeing what went on with the Raiders coaching and they still made the playoffs.

Stef though will be put on the hot seat next season if he doesn't get this offense clicking a little better. There was times when Mayfield was frustrated cause of the way plays where called and I was too since they got away from the run game, which is likely the best one in the NFL right now... Stef has to show growth from this season and if he doesn't he will lose his job sadly. Let's hope he shows it.

Couple of things i needed to remember, as Stefanski navigates the HC/OC waters:

- young coach at 39
- was an interim OC in 2018 and full time OC for 1 year in 2019
- Berry and company hired Stefanski for his play-calling, leadership traits, analytics and modern coaching approach/philosophy

Just like a rookie or 2nd year player, he needs time to learn, make mistakes, develop and make corrections.

Imagine getting one of 32 of the most high pressure professional sports jobs — during COVID and having to adapt. I could not imagine how difficult that could be.

I really like the idea of Stefanski and Woods implenting their philosophies while creating continuity. As an observation — most “bad teams” (like the Browns) cycle through coaches like underwear.

I would assume analytics has observed/understands experience, time it takes to create cohesion (years) and potential challenges in generating success.

I don’t think it’s this black and white necessarily.

The Browns success offensively will depend far more on the level of play they get out of the starting QB, whether that’s Baker or someone else, than it will depend on the scheme or the play calling.

I don’t expect the front office to punish Stefanski for something that’s ultimately out of his control (the QB struggling so badly to the point he can’t successfully convert open plays).

Stefanski was hired before Berry.

Drew Brees?

I don't think Stefanski will be in any danger of being fired next season. Barring a catastrophic season where the team has like 4 wins and the players have rebelled, etc... I think he'll at least get another year to work with a new QB with an entire offseason before his job is on the line.

Drew Brees?

There are some similarities, but the Chargers also drafted Rivers in the top 5 and Brees also suffered a severe injury to his throwing shoulder, both of which threw a significant wrench into any plans to keep Brees.

The most apples to apples example is probably Tampa Bay with Jameis Winston.

They let him play out his 5th year option then let him walk away for nothing at the end of that 5th season.

Now of course, the Bucs were in a position to sign TOM BRADY as a free agent, which certainly helped their Winston decision.
