Gotta try and match actions with words.

The Browns have had two opportunities to discuss a contract extension with Baker Mayfield and have opted not to extend him. They say they believe in him because they don't really have a choice otherwise.

There's not a significant amount of data points for a team to let a QB play out his rookie contract including the option, ya know?
Okay I can see some logic to that.

and Berry was very much involved with the drafting of Baker.

He was the DOPP, and Dorsey had essentially four of them.

Wolf, Highsmith, Ken Kovash, and Andrew Berry. He was a singular voice in a room of Dorsey preferred people, and when he went to the Eagles, they didn’t even replace the position.

The amount of pull Andrew Berry had was limited, and the idea that he was a Baker backer and helped push him across the finish line isnt something that’s every been verbally said. In fact, it was implied the opposite. Dorsey had the backing of Wolf, and Scot Mclaughlan, who worked as a consultant.

Andrew Berry isnt loyal to Baker because he was in the org when he was drafted. It’s a lot more muddled than that.

Wonder how coach would fair as a play caller with the sets he’s comfortable running against these teams in these kinda games ?

Do we know what sets he is comfortable running?

To me, everything screams that if given the right personnel, he'd be right up there with Daboll and Reid going at each other.

Hell, he already did it once this year with a healthy Baker.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Watson trade/signing puts stefanski on the hot seat. Haslam isn’t fucking around. Last year KS was slow to adjust and didnt always play to bakers strengths which was roll outs and play actions. He didn’t run them nearly enough and when baker had to drop back like a regular qb he sucked. Giving Watson 230M and trading the farm for him is going to put pressure on KS to form an offense around Watson and not make Watson adjust to stefanskis scheme. If stefanski shits the bed with Watson I can see haslam moving on from him in the offseason and bringing someone in who can build around Watson. I don’t think haslam is scared at all to make that move.

I wouldn’t say hot seat. But I think expectations should rightfully be elevated.

As for not playing to Baker’s strengths, I’m not so sure I agree here. Defenses adjusted. He played badly. He was hurt. The results last season were a combination of those three things.

Check out this article showing how defenses tweaked their coverages of the outside zone play action boots.

Stefanski was able to spoon feed Baker really easy looks in 2020 with this action. Defenses challenged it in 2021. You may recall a lot of this “green lighting” the article references when Stefanski did try to roll him out on naked boots. The result was ugly.

But I digress. I do think the pressure will be ratcheted up on Stefanski this year whenever Watson is able to take the field. And I think he’ll respond nicely.

Wasn't Stefanski one of the reasons Watson ended up coming to Cleveland?

I'm not so sure. Who is the ONE player on the field that touches the ball every snap? We lost a number of games by less than a touchdown. This wasn't due to poor coaching, it was due to horrible QB play. If Mayfield showed up in those appearances, we would have been in the playoffs.

Honest question here:

How many current NFL head coaches would you trade Kevin Stefanski for?

Belichick
Tomlin
Reid
Harbaugh
McDermitt
Shannahan
LaFluer
McVay
Vrabel???

He's too nice to be a head coach. After the td to bring them back into the game, he should've been fired up and in people's faces to let them know this shit is unacceptable.
