...And the head coach and GM have EVERY right to sit his ass and tell him to get surgery. How many other times have we seen teams sit injured players who "tried to play through it"? The browns Coaching/FO didn't do that and fucked up. Let's say he refuses surgery? Sit him anyway. Make it clear that we're not going to run him out there until he gets the operation.

Don't get me wrong, Baker deserves blame for being so bone-headed as well, but these are cocky, entitled, "I'm the best ever" professional athletes... almost all of them will try to play if they think they can. This is something the staff/FO could have squashed by starting one of the highest paid backup QB's in Keenum (that Stephanski, specifically, CHOSE to bring in) but chose not to in lieu of "exposing" baker (see Steelers game) and running him out of town.
Yep. And the “expose him by making an example of him” game plan is just… rubs me the wrong way. Not my style.

I like him Stefanski but….

What if I told you that five years after hiring him he’d have 0 division championships, 0 playoff wins, and in year 5 we would be one of, if not the worst team in the league.

I'd say you ignoring a playoff win because Stefanski wasn't on the sideline due to COVID was being intentionally disingenuous in order to build a narrative.

The team has been incredibly disappointing. But I think anyone with eyes can see the issue. We played well with Baker, Jacoby and Flacco. Watson is just cancer.

What if I told you he’d take the team with the league’s longest playoff drought to the playoffs twice in four years despite being saddled with a washed up Deshaun Watson for 2 years and having to play like 10 different starting QBs over his tenure, win a playoff game against the team’s biggest rival, and win 2 Coach of the Year awards?

You’re not the only one who can frame a narrative.

I agree 100%.

To play devil’s advocate, we saw 1 good year of Baker and 1 bad year of Baker under Stefanski. It’s hard for me to excuse the injury while playing devil’s advocate because majority of people here weren’t accepting that during the 2021 season.

We saw 6 games of Flacco and 11 with Jacoby. 17 games pretty much a full season. Not counting the possibility that both started playing worse with time, we can count it as a “good” year.

Then there’s 17 games with Deshaun.

Two “good years”, two “bad” years with his QBs. I agree with you 110% actually, but the back of my mind is wondering… is it possible Stefanski is more average than good? This is ignoring his flaws (not many, but some). I ruled him top 10 but in reality is he more 15ish?

Very simplistic way of looking at it but ultimately his tenure here will be judged on how successful he is.

Well, here's what I wrote a couple weeks back. Based on that, I think "outside the top 10 but inside the top 15" is pretty realistic.

Here's the list of coaches ahead of Stefanski:
  • Harbaugh
  • Campbell
  • Ryans
  • Reid
  • McVay
  • McDaniel
  • Tomlin
  • Shanahan
Here's a list of the guys in the same group as Stefanski, just behind the above list:
  • McDermott
  • LaFleur
  • O'Connell
  • Daboll
  • Harbaugh
He's a very good head coach and not the issue. Terminating him just sets your franchise back when you should be moving forward.

And if you're blaming last year's playoff loss on Stefanski, I think you might have brain rot.

I know it's been a long time since, in Cleveland tradition, we have paid 2 or 3 head coaches simultaneously, but does anyone have the numbers for Kevin's extension yet? I'd have the same question for Berry. If I was forced to keep running Deshaun out there, I'd want major eat shit money and years for protection and I imagine they both have both.
