The Rise of Skywalker spoilers thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My main complaint was that they toyed with the idea of Rey or Kylo turning the entire movie, and even in the trailers, etc. And then neither of them do? That was the big let down for me.

That isn't to say they handled it wrong necessarily, but that would make things a lot more interesting to me. I figured Rey wouldn't turn, for the kids. Kylo, I thought there might be a chance but redeeming him after killing Han was low. Rey and Kylo teaming up for a full movie vs. Snoke for the finale would have been epic. But we will see what they have planned for the end. It might be better. I don't know if the dimwit of Kylo is that scary of a final threat tbh. The movie makes him look stupid over and over again.

And I'm not 100% sure still that Rey's parents are who they say. It might be a throw off. One of the final twists might end up being Rey's parents.

The Yoda appearance was cool. I don't know, the more I think of it, it was very satisfactory. They just didn't take any big risks it felt like. Going back to being predictable. So we can say they didn't mess it up, but they could have elevated it much higher and made it more interesting if they would have took some bigger risks I think.
I agree to your points about the parents. Kylie was obviously trying to have her join forces at that moment. If she is alone and vulnerable he had a shot.

I can't help but think it's Leia and or Hans. Why else keep Leia alive?

Ok sorry sorry, one LAST thing I promise:

The humor. Everyone saying this thing is even more riddled with humor and comical shit than TFA. Um, no? I disagree. It was there but I don't think it was at the forefront at all... That was not a complaint of mine at all.

Thought Hamill acted the shit out of this film. Was awesome to see Luke Skywalker one last time, though I do wish we got to see him go ham on some fools.

Regarding the constant peppering of comedy throughout the movie - I think that it wouldn't have bothered me if I watched at home, but in a theater it really took away from the experience. A rather rubenesque woman sitting next to me just had to laugh out loud any time BB-8 beeped, someone threw out a quick one-line jab, or a Porg just stood there. Or, maybe I just hate people.

Also, it's crazy that Leia outlasted most of the other original characters, but Carrie died in real life. Just seems like the complete opposite of what I was expecting, especially after the floating through space scene.

Yeah Im witg you thats one annoying thing about the theater

Oh I forgot: All throughout the OT Han was noted to be a bad ass pilot. Doing shit with the Falcon that nobody else could. LIES!!!! It was all Chewie!!! You see the move that furball pulled in that last battle on Crait??? :)

I'm a bit conflicted on this one. Unlike TFA, in which I was giddy with excitement when I left the theater, I didn't feel that this time. Yet I did enjoy it and I felt it worthy of the franchise. Maybe we're just being so inundated with Star Wars lately that the movies are becoming less and less of a spectacle...

Have to say, though, I got that feeling from the moment it began. I just knew I wasn't going to feel super strongly about it, kinda like what @col63onel is saying, although I think I liked it more than him. And then the middle of the film just felt, well, pretty boring... And seriously, what the HELL was with Leia floating through space? :chuckle: Fuck, man, I cringed hard, although I cringed even harder during parts of that casino shit. Thought the film had some real lows...

...and some incredible highs. Snoke's death and the subsequent fight scene was awesome. No idea what the purpose was of his character; a plot device, as you guys said? Boy, that's a bit of a buzzkill, but whatever. The reveal on Rey's parents I was already spoiled on and I am 100% okay with it. Anyway, the highs: ah, yes. The end was fantastic with Luke and Kylo, although I am a bit disappointed that Luke is gone now. I thought Leia was toast in this movie, she lives? With Fisher having passed away? I'm...a bit confused as to how this will be handled.

Overall, no idea what I'd rate it. I'm not even sure if I like it more or less than TFA. Really conflicted on this one right now, but as always, I am happy to have been able to live to see Star Wars on the big screen once again. More thoughts tomorrow.
Carrie Fisher passed away after the filming was complete. So, the story was already written for her to continue into Episode 9.

Yeah, still doesn't really tell me what they're gonna do about that though unless you mean they filmed her Ep 9 scenes.

Read your comment like you expected them to kill her off because she passed away.

Not sure, but perhaps they’ll have a few years pass.

Yeah there's a few ways to go about it I guess, none of which will be very satisfying but not like they have a choice. Sad that Fisher can't see this trilogy come full circle. :(

For Ep. 9, to fulfill the prophecy of bringing balance to the force, perhaps Rey or someone trains up a new order of Grey Jedi. Rey already seems sort of grey as she tried to work with both Kylo and Luke, and she is much more aggressive than most Light Jedi. And Kylo at the same time is on the other side of the spectrum, but still could go to the middle since he didn't pull the trigger on Leia. So maybe the end is setting up a new order that balances light and dark, and they abolish the old ways. That could manifest itself in several ways, but a clean slate and new way to use the force is a good set up for a new Star Wars universe beyond this trilogy. Which a kid like the one at the end of TLJ can become the new star of.

Just throwing the idea out there. It seems like Luke made a big point over and over about the Jedi failing and that their way doesn't work and it should be abolished. So it could make sense.

Speaking of tits...how awesome was that nipple monster? I want that action figure!

It was a little weird but I loved how Luke just went down on that blue milk or whatever it was, like no fucks were given.

I think the prophecy was already fulfilled with Anakin.

Disney is negligent of it.

This movie was.....

...awful...

Yes, it was better than The Force Awakens... great... achievement unlocked... But I just sat through two and a half hours of motherfuckers losing, running and dying for nothing. They got their asses handed to them, for no reason. That's how the fucking movie started, and that's how it ended. I... can't even right now.. I'm so fucking pissed.

Rian Johnson ... you have failed me..... you .. have failed me...

I will get more into it, but just as I told you all before, last year, when I said people would remember TFA as an unimaginative money grab, well, they won't say that about this film -- simply that -- it was the weird one.

I'm actually looking forward to JJ Abrams coming back... Holy Fuck....
