Hopefully you can use the playstations gyro capabilities. Oh, who am I kidding, of course it won't include that.

Release delayed until May 2020.

Not sure why they don't just wait and release on PS5 at this point.

I'd rather have a great game later than a half-finished one now, personally. Delays suck, but Naughty Dog has a reputation for quality and I'm sure if they delayed it it's for good reason.

Spring next year seems like a great time for games. FF7 remake in March if you like that sort of thing and Cyberpunk 2077 in April. I might end up passing on TLOU2 at least for a little bit because so many good games coming out so close together.

I played the original, but don't own a Playstation anymore so I watched the gameplay "movie" on Youtube to see the story and I really liked it. Boy, was I really surprised at the vitriol being spewed online about it. I guess people were upset
that Joel was killed in the beginning of the game? Or perhaps where they took Elle's storyline?
I don't know, I thought it told a really compelling story. They hit you over the head with the general theme (vengeance = bad), but there were plenty of powerful story beats. Also, I kind of liked Abby? And
kind of hated Ellie by the end?

Lol, the resurrection of this thread made me laugh at this post. If only we knew what Spring 2020 would have really brought us. Worst of all, TLOU2 being delayed to the summer obviously... (kidding, this shit pandemic has got my humour a little wonky).

So I'm in the same boat as you - played the first one (one of my favorite story games ever) and didn't play the second, but watched a gameplay movie.

Here's my reasoning behind the vitriol (I agree with it too for the most part):

Joel dying in a stupid way pissed a lot of people off, me included. I love shows and games where nobody is off limits to die (see: Walking Dead, seasons 1-6 of Game of Thrones, etc.). The issue here was is that Joel is a very intelligent guy and he should have known that he probably wasn't very popular given the events of the first game. But here he is, spewing his name around to the crew that ended up killing him. Convenient too that they were on the side of the people that Joel took on in the first game.

I felt like they killed Joel off just so he'd be out of the way for the rest of the story, and they dumbed down his intelligence way too much to do so.

Then you play the next however many hours as the character that just killed fan-favorite Joel off, and they tried to make you sympathize with her. Are there two sides to every story? Sure, but you just butchered a main character. It would've been like if Euron Greyjoy randomly showed up at the end of S6 of Game of Thrones and killed Jon Snow and Tyrion, and then we spent the next half season dedicated to him. It just didn't work IMO.

I see what you mean regarding the way that particular event occurred and the possible character derivations it took to get there. That's a pretty valid criticism. Although I think
Joel had it coming and knew it was going to happen eventually. I think the revelation at the end of the game when you learn that the EXACT SAME DAY Joel and Ellie were about to make amends and move forward in their relationship, was the day he died. Just an extra little knife twist.
But I love tragic shit like that in my media

Regarding the second issue, I thought it took some big balls to take that approach in a AAA game like Last of Us, but I thought it paid off by the end. Maybe it could have been better edited -- like not having one half and then a second half, essentially, but perhaps make it more interspersed within the narrative? I do think it was a bad choice to, for example,
take the player's agency away in several particular scenes and force them to beat the shit out of Abby/Ellie and if you don't do it you lose the game. I understand that the story needed it to happen to move forward, but the lack of choice kind of sucked.

I do know that by the end
I was practically begging Ellie to stay in that fkin house and to just LET IT GO. Her actions in that entire epilogue portion of the game are just hard to stomach and her being all alone at the end was such a powerful "you reap what you sow" moment.
I think the fact I felt that way by the end is a testament to the story telling

If only another amazing story could have executed that kind of character arc and finale...:banghead:

Yeah. I totally get what Stark is saying and honestly I read some leaks and hated it badly. Then I played it and it actually did work for me. Doesn’t mean it was perfect- it could’ve been done better. But it worked enough for me.

Didn’t hate Ellie by the end either. Understood her very well actually. But I understood Abby as well.

The first one is probably my favorite game ever. I didn't play the second one at release because I didn't think it needed a second game. I played it for free on the playstation store last year, but the game was great. The first is 10/10 second is about an 8/10. I love that they told the story they wanted to tell and didn't care about backlash.

This did not need to be made in the ps5. Man give this game a rest. It's my favorite game but enough. Plus ellie looks horrible in the new game. Doesn't even look like her. Just leave it alone.

Looks the same to me.

I’ll play it, despite this not being necessary.

You doing PlayStation or PC? I’m intrigued to see how it runs on PC.

PS5 for sure. I get most stuff on console these days despite being all PC in my younger years. Still run a nice rig for the occasional game that can only be played there (WHTW, for example).

I’m sure it’ll look great on both platforms, and run great. I’m honestly at the point with consoles that I expect 60 FPS. It’s part of the reason I was disappointed with the Starfield reveal. Ran like shit even though the game itself looks good.

One complaint I've had since playing this was I never bought ellie's motivation for this game. The way he character changed, developed, whatever word you want to use to me, would have been sad about what happened, but not throw away everything, when he life in Jackson is decent outside of a few bigots. Is safe, has a gf, community where people love her, all for a man she didn't seen to love like the first one.
