I wouldnt mind Cedi at 8mil at all. Still like him a lot, I think his ideal usage would be off the bench with Delly in a bench mob squad.

He's lucky to be in the NBA, and I think he'll be out of it within no time unless he makes something happen. He'll be back in the old country teaching kids basketball and talking about what could of been.

That's all really over the top. Believing that he may not be a starting quality player is defensible...but there are still 300 other spots on rosters throughout the league, and Cedi absolutely is good enough to hold down one of those spots at least for the foreseeable future on some team.

Cavs mismanaged him throughout his time here. He should have been pegged as a 2 and a part time 1. Not a 4 and 3.
Cedi was supposed to be a tall, lengthy, quick and shifty shooting guard that could guard multiple positions. He now weighs 215 pounds which is too much and as a result of whatever they tried to transform him into he has lost some of his quickness and shiftiness.

Last season he played almost exclusively the 4 which is ridiculous. Now it looks like it's going to be the same under Beilein.

This is really a key point, and it's part of the cramming of square pegs into round holes that I personally detest. Coaches decide "I want my centers to be able to hit 3's", or "I want to have a stretch 4 who can hit threes", so they do that regardless of whether their roster actually is able to do that. Your centers can't hit a three to save their life? Don't worry about it -- have them fire off those bricks anyway because that's the "trend in the NBA". You want a stretch 4? Upjump an undersized three and force him to play PF because then you'll have the "stretch 4" your particular offensive system demands.

I hate it.

It's one reason I like Brad Stevens. The guy keeps changing things up to match the talent available on the floor. Ainge may have screwed him in terms of providing elite talent, but Stevens always seems to put a good team out there, and to maximize what he has to work with. The offense actually changes depending on who is on the floor.

Anyway, back to your point. Cedi is a natural 2/3, and anyone who plans to play him at the 4 needs to be replaced.

Ainge gave Stevens elite talent. The problem was that the talent was named Kyrie and he didn't want to play nice with others. There's only so much a coach can do. Cedi on the other hand has a great attitude. It's just not clear to me that his ceiling is higher than "capable role player". I cringe at the thought of giving an MLE size extension to a player whose ceiling could be "capable role player". Those guys are usually replaceable, not core building blocks.

Cedi would have been a natural 2/3 in 2009, but in the 2019 NBA, any tall guard will spending some time at the 4 when it is small ball time.

Cavs will also play a lot of lineups featuring inexperienced small guards who are not proven facilitators or proven NBA caliber defenders. If the Cavs want to win, they need a defensive wing who can play major minutes to cover their defensive short comings at guard. Cedi didn't fill that role very well last year. He couldn't hang at the 3 for long stretches when he was paired with Sexton without giving up a ton of points. Cavs also need front court guys who can help keep the ball moving. I think Cedi is going to see most of his minutes split between the forward positions this season, like he did last year.

Cedi Position EstimateTotal minPG%SG%SF%PF%C%+/- Per 100 On+/- Per 100 Off

17%73%10%

2444
45%55%

While you could look at those numbers and say his on-off +/- suffered playing at the 4, I think the bigger issue was that he was playing 24+ minutes against starters, instead of coming off the bench and going berserk for 10 mins a game against bench players.

I think Cedi played his best in the last 30 games of the season and that's when the light went on for him and the game slowed down. 15 ppg and 40% from 3.

I think if he had been able to hit the ground running at the beginning of last season, he would have been give alot the opportunities to handle the ball and be a primary or secondary ball handler. The roster was almost demanding it especially when George Hill got injured. The problem was when the game finally did slow down, the roster had settled into having alot of ball handlers and Nance had been given the green light to do whatever he wanted.

It goes back to timing and I think for Cedi to fit into this team, it will be playing hard defense and wait for his opportunities to clear the way for him and the rest of the young guys. He will have more competition for minutes now with KPJ and Windler.

To be honest we made Cedi so high and now suddenly so low. Black and white, nothing in the middle. This is not right!

He can still be decent player in the correct position and role. Last year he was actually a rookie player in a chaotic environment and mostly beaten by stronger 4s.

Now most of people here judge him according some bad pre-season games. Cedi is still Cedi. Who really cares these games? It's just preseason and he has nothing to prove or risk in these games. He got a busy summer with FIBA, may he will start season bad too, but I am sure he will give his best and be better after new year like last season or even earlier.

If our offense plan is 3 point competition this year, may it will not adjust his game well. He still struggles with his 3 points or even getting worse. I really don't understand who is responsible from this. His shooting mechanics even changing often, before Korver was different, with Korver different, in FİBA different, now again different. I hope the right staff working with this.

By the way Cedi really loves Cleveland, he always declare that he wants to stay in Cleveland long years. I also missed old NBA, don't like players who are changing the teams often or suddenly throwing to the garbage. Cedi still can be a part or face of the land and this franchise. Believe me millions of people in Turkey and Macedonia follow Cleveland or NBA just for him. I wish he and Zizic will be part of the land long years and more people from Europe will follow the team.

I think a lot of people are judging him harshly from pre-season. I think he is going to settle in and be pretty good. Defense and consistency is his main worry right now. If he can work on those, he can be pretty good. I dunno if he is a starter in the future, but he really doesn't need to get a lot better to be a really good player. Clean some stuff up and improve 1% in a couple of areas.

Look at Jaylen Browns numbers compared to Cedi. Brown is marginally better and just got offered 30M per year. I think everyone is going overboard here. This is a perception thing. Cedi wasn't ready for the role he got last year. As a 3rd or 4th guy he is going to look good. He needs to develop some chemistry with the other guys. He knows how to play with good players imo, he just can't be your best player in the NBA.

Criticizing too harshly based on preseason? sure.

Still, my point still stands, he was misued and miscast. He was supposed to be a different player based on what I saw from Eurocup and earlier in this career.

Crazy that he weights almost as much as Nance and has 38 pounds on Clarkson.

Yes, seems too heavy. He benefited from being very tall and fast.

Totally agree on him playing at the 4. It was disappointing to see him do really well as a 2 the year before and have size on his side only to then look over-matched at the 3 and 4.

I think he is going to have a great year. Pre-season they were all out of sorts. When the projected starting lineup played, they looked great because our best players were on the floor working together.

I do think he was miscast but I don't think it was intensional. He couldn't be a secondary ball handler until the game slowed down for him. I think they tried at the beginning of last season but it was clear he wasn't ready and they needed just to let him get minutes to wait for the light to go on for him.

The roster went thru alot of changes and he was needed more at SF and PF than SG. I do think the biggest mistake with Cedi was not giving him enough meaningful minutes in his rookie season to get the game to slow down for him. It set him back a year and instead of everything falling to place with his development path, the timing of his opportunities didn't match where he was in his developmental path.

I do think the weight thing is on him as much as the team. I think he wanted to do everything LeBron was doing and was trying to mold his game after LeBron. The team should have pushed back on that but that could only go so far with a player as self motivated as Cedi.

If he does take that next step up to say 15/5/3 and hits 40% from 3 and playing better defense he could get a pretty decent offer from someone.
Don't think there is going to be much out there in the free agent market next offseason.
Jaylen Brown just got almost 30 million a year like Cavatt stated...Cedi should have never played the 4 last year. Anyone who watches video of the games he played the 4 would clearly see he was way over matched at that spot.

So I think there is some questions if Cedi extension deadline was yesterday. Hopefully someone will better CBA knowledge can chime in and give us a definite answer. The thing is Cedi wasn't signed with rookie scale, he was sign with part of the MLE. (It was one of the reasons why we didn't get Jamal Crawford, 2 years ago)

So some are saying that Cedi is eligible for a 4 year/51 million extension at any time because it would be a 2+ year Vet extension.

Can anyone confirm this?

I agree that Cedi probably shouldn't have played the 4 but the problem was they didn't have the proper depth at times to stop that from happening. Love being hurt, Nwaba was hurt alot, 2 way NBA day limit for Blossomgame, and Nance not being able to stretch the floor, basically forced the coaching staffs hand to use Cedi at the 4. We saw how bad the team was when they tried to play 2 of Zizic, TT, or Nance. I don't even think the Cavs wanted Chriss at the deadline and were trying to trade him away to another team, yet they played him when he got here because they had no better options.

I think Koby has learned from all of that and that's why he has Dean Wade, Tyler Cook, and picked up Mckinnie

Rumors said Cedi and his representation wanted something like what Nance got. That seems high and seems high for Nance to be honest. I think 8M would have been appropriate perhaps. If 8 wouldn't do it, you let the season play out. I don't mind what they did.

100% let season play out, I wouldn't be giving him more than a 1 year $8mil deal until he shows improvement
