I think Peyton Watson may want more than what the market will bear after you factor in the Nnaji tax. He may end up playing on the Q.O. and hitting the market next summer as an unrestricted FA when there's a lot more cap space.
 
It's pretty easy to see the course correction going on with complimentary cusp starters here. Watson is a starting level wing, but he's a small sample size. Kuminga isn't really a starter but a high level backup forward - I see an Obi Toppin type role for him.

How many assets do you give up to incentivize another team eat salary? Do you really want to overpay a cusp starter? That's why Dennis and Max need picks attached to move them. I could see Kuminga as a hindrance to roster changes a year from now if we overpay now.

Kuminga and Watson got caught in the exact off-season GMs really gained an understanding of the 2nd apron and they are caught in the middle.

I suppose the question is what to do with this build. Either we let this linger and slowly peter out before eventually breaking it up for pennies on the dollar. Or, we make a desperate gambit to buoy this team enough to have a punchers chance while gutting long term flexibility.

The Harden trade painted them into a corner. They painted themselves even further into a corner with the contract for Mitchell. They don't control their own pick for years yet, so a rebuild would be rough. There is no clean way to fix this stuation. Nothing that does not incur risk.

Both watson and kumenga have enough allure to be enticing, given their ages. Both are also a high risk of fools gold, Kumenga moreso than Watson, but both a risky. So what poison do we prefer?

Tend to agree...Definitely understand that the team was a final four team-- just based on the path to get there it was pretty unconvincing that they were a top 4 team...

And they've only had subtractions from the roster...They're in a very unique spot...

Roster structure aside --- they kinda reminds me of those Jazz teams with Boozer & Williams 20 years or so ago...Good enough to reach a certain level, always able to compete but the ceiling isn't as high as the organization desires...

the truth of the matter is of all the bad moves the koby altman character has made....if he would have just picked scottie over evan there would still be hope....a possibliity....a future

as it stands now austincarr hit this shit right on the head....it took about three years of fuk up after fuk up after fuk up but the chickens are coming home to roost after the hail-mary charity hand-out lebron play didnt come through

and there hasnt even a season-emding injury angle in the last four years to substantiate this mediocracy....the cavs have been pretty much injury.free during this entire donovan mitchell era....

But I think the Cavs have, for better or worse, tied their fate to this group.

They had ample opportunity to make a big move for a "difference maker" This off-season and passed. Multiple times.


So I don't think they're in the market for a difference maker and instead are in the market to try and put the best roster around this group as possible.

Doesn't mean I'm on board giving Kuminga some monster contract he doesn't seem able to get anywhere else.

Brother Scottie Barnes entered the league the same year as Evan Mobley and has zero playoff series victories to show for it.
