Can't really help you with your question (we may hit one or two fish fries every Lent, but those are usually local-church type deals) -- but wanted to add my check mark next to your reco of Sokolowski's. (As if it needed it) Only down side of that place is that Mrs. AllforOne (who normally has a freakish alcohol tolerance for a ~100 lb woman) has been known to order one too many Polish Flags while waiting in line.

If you like Soko's, try Olesia's Place in North Royalton. Legit Ukrainian cuisine, more upscale than Sokos but absolutely delicious. They have both more exotic and traditional dishes. Soko's is fine, but they stopped making their own pierogies a long time ago.

They're moving in June to the space previously occupied by the Tavern in Richfield.
 
I haven’t lived in Cleveland pretty much since 1998. And haven’t been back in a few years but in the Spring/Summer/Fall/Holidays time Chagrin Falls is an excellent spot to visit for food, walking around and shopping and/or enjoying some drinks.
 
I have never dined-in- they have a drive through window for pickups- but Dina's Pizza & Pub in Brooklyn is great. $1/wing (sold in pairs of 5s), pretty good sized, and their house hot/mild sauce is super good.
 
I am a bit envious of this thread as it is not local to me. One thing that is odd about Phoenix is no one travels over 20 minutes or so to go anywhere eventhough its 1.5 hours from one side of town to the other. Personally I never go to the east valley for anything or the west valley. I usually stay in North Phoenix, but occasionally Scottsdale or Downtown. But when I was back in NE Ohio, I didn't think it was a big deal to go 45 minutes.
 
Cleveland Scene is reporting that Ohio City Galley will cease operations after COB on Friday.


Not too surprising unfortunately. The times I went were always at non-peak times, but it was always dead empty.
 
James Beard Award semifinalists were announced today. Only one Cleveland-based chef/restaurant was nominated in any of the categories. The team at Larder, a delicatessen over in Hingetown, were nominated for Best Chef: Great Lakes.

Other Ohio-based nominees included James Anderson from Ray-Ray's Hog Pit in Columbus (Best Chef: Great Lakes), Ryan Santos from Please in Cincinnati (Best Chef: Great Lakes), and Spencer Budros from Pistacia Vera in Columbus (Outstanding Baker).

Finalists for the awards will be announced March 25th. Cleveland hasn't had a James Beard Finalist in any category since 2015 (Jonathon Sawyer - won Best Chef: Great Lakes).

They're also fantastic.
 
Finally got a chance to try Mabel's on Saturday before the Cavs game. Wife and I both thought it was absolutely delicious. Brought in some friends from out of town who enjoyed it as well. We shared a 1/2 pound of fatty brisket, 1/2 pound of spicy kielbasa, a half rack of pork spare ribs and 3/4 pounds of smoked chicken wings. Loved that the sides and platter accouterments had a Central/Eastern European bent to them. The banana pudding was also primo.

They do a really good job. It's probably my favorite Symon restaurant, because it's pretty unique. We don't have a BBQ place like it around, and their "Cleveland BBQ Sauce" is really damn good.

Btw, the absolute best thing on their menu is that giant beef rib.

They also have a great whiskey selection.
 
I was tempted to get this but saw it on another table and was intimidated by the sheer size. Would probably get it with a group larger than the four we had. Duly noted for next time!
I think I've had it twice, and both times were with groups of at least six.

It would be incredibly daunting for two people.
