The Rise of Skywalker spoilers thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah. I'd kill for another KOTOR-esque Star Wars RPG, I'll admit. I know it isn't really an RPG, but I picked up Jedi Fallen Order recently, looks solid, haven't played yet though.

Fallen Order was a lot of fun. It can be a little frustrating at times but overall it's just so cool using the Force to toss around Stormtroopers.

The prequels pretty well burned out the love I had for Star Wars, and the new movies haven't done anything to rekindle it. Still love a good Star Wars game, though.

KOTOR is one of my favorite games of all time and the stuff around the original trilogy (Rogue One, Mandalorian, and even Solo) is solid to really good.

Captain Phasma was total missed opportunity in this trilogy. Definitely some Worf effect here.

IN Star Trek Next generation they tried to make aliens look tough by being able to smack tough guy Worf around. However, after this happened a bunch of times, he seemed like a wimp. Same thing happened here. Only female stormtropper we know, who presumably rose through the ranks because she was a badass, and she gets bested in a fight by a rogue infantryman. I guess it is in the spirit of everyone thinking Boba Fett was a bad ass and he just gets oopsie dopsied into Sarlac.

I couldn't believe how easily Hux was dismissed either. First Order had a lot of things I'd love to have seen more on. Not exactly FO, but the Knights of Ren too. A lot of story missing from that.

These films lack both coherence and continuity.

JJ has always been very sloppy with plot.

And then Johnson destroys what subplots that were created in TFA. So JJ now has no time to develop the side characters.

So Hux gets short shrift, Phasma was literally dropped down an endless shaft (in a star destroyer?) and we instead get Rose and other shitty JJ characters with no purpose.

In sum, the Sequel Trilogy was far worse than the Prequels in terms of original plot and character development.

Say what you will about the PT, but it gave us some pretty cool, and fleshed out, secondary characters.

Truthfully, I'm a huge mark for this series. I get they had to wrap things up, but if it were up to me, they'd just keep making these movies forever and take time to really flesh out the backstories. I've watched Rise about 5 times since I got it on digital and still enjoy the parts that are there. The cringiest part for me is just the Leia scenes. I know they tried to do what they could w/ what film they had of her, but the dialogue in those scenes was really painful. I'll miss her though, as well as the rest of the Skywalkers. I really have no desire at all to follow Rey anymore. I'd rather some gap filler films or all new stories from much in the future.

Regardless of what they release, I'm a slave to the world and will be there to consume it. :)

I have a lot of faith that Tahki Waititi will be a good director/story builder to save this franchise. He took a dead and dying brand like Thor movies and made, IMO, one of the best Marvel movies with Ragnarok. I'm a big fan of his other work too and think he's just the director to bring that Star Wars magic back.

Kathleen Kennedy also needs to be removed, IMO. She doesn't have the ability to storyboard her work out like a Kevin Feige can. I understand she is a LucasFilms royalty type person, she clearly does not understand what she wants from a long term story.

I'm not sure that what was accomplished with the Marvel movies will ever be repeated. It was an absurd hot streak of quality films that managed to semi-coherently tie dozens of plot points together into two climactic movies. The fact that they pulled it off is insane. DC couldn't even make it three movies without completely shitting the bed and seem to have already all but abandoned trying to maintain any kind of narrative continuity.

I do think Waititi is fully capable of making a great Star Wars movie, though. It'd be nice if they gave him control of the whole (presumed) trilogy. Even if he doesn't want to direct all three, they should give him narrative control so there's a coherent plot through the entire trilogy.

They should just stay away from the movies for a bit and then just fucking redo the sequels. Hopefully Mark Hamill is still alive to give fucking Luke Skywalker a proper send-off

How awesome would be for Luke to train the Child?

Not sure if anyone has posted about the Dual of Fates leaked script, but this video is the best one I have seen on what episode 9 could have been:
