The Travel Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Check with your credit card benefits to see if you get a refund for Global Entry/ TSA PreCheck fee. My Chase card credited my fee within three days.

In some airports, you can skip the main international lines without Global Entry by downloading the mobile passport app. Last time I went through Newark (before getting Global Entry), I was able to go into a separate line next to Global Entry with the mobile passport information already saved. I was in the queue of about five people and only had to wait for the Global Entry line to clear.

Is it really worth $85 for TSA precheck or $100 for global entry?

Cannot say I know anything about global entry. But I have TSA precheck and I believe it lasts for 5 years, so $17 a year. Well worth it to me, and I only travel 3 times per year tops.

Yes. If you travel internationally, global entry is great, which is only a little more than TSA. Also several credit cards will comp you for global entry fees. Saves you an hour at the airport coming and going.

So I have a conference I can go to in Stockholm, Sweden. I have a couple things that I am considering and am not sure what is the best course to take. It's a two day conference, so I am planning on going a week early. I can:

1) Go to Stockholm for the whole week.

2) Go somewhere else for the first handful of days and hit Stockholm for the days around the conference.

If 2, then where? I first thought of London or Amsterdam. I've been to Paris already. Wherever it would be would have be close to Sweden, so the cost won't be much different than a direct flight would have been.

I'd go to Copenhagen. Depending on how far out the conference is, I'd be trying to book a reservation at Noma.

If you love scenery and the outdoors, you could always do Iceland first.

You're the second person that suggested Copenhagen. Not sure I want to shell out the cash required for that dinner, but I'll look into the city!

I went last year in the summer and had a great time. It helped that I had an old exchange student friend living there but it's a fun city where everyone speaks English. Downsides are it's expensive and they use their own currency.

I have a good friend that lives in Sweden half the year. I asked him what the best way to see Sweden was and he also said "Start in Copenhagen"..

Going on vacation to Armenia for a couple weeks. Any suggestions?

Just got back from Victoria Island near Vancouver. Highly recommend. It was beautiful, slow paced and relaxing, and everyone was super nice. It looks very European too, classy.

Any recommendations for Lake Tahoe? Kind of spontaneously booked flights for a small 5-day vacation in early September. Will probably stay one night in Reno.

Probably just do some standard hiking and canoeing or whatev

Best site to find flights?

Is there a timing element to finding the cheapest fares? Book well in advance...wait until closer to the trip? Day of the week?
