The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm loving Outer Worlds. Also really pumped that the game is only about thirty hours long, because I want to replay it with a low intelligence character to see the funny dialogue. Also want to do a melee build in my replay since I put almost no points into melee in my first playthrough and there are some fun-looking options.

I have to do a dumb character solely so I can fly into the sun and get an achievement.

Playing Red Dead 2 conditioned me to tolerate purposefully slow games. Death Stranding certainly falls in that category. It wants you to take in the bleak, blighted landscape while moody music plays in the background.

I’m enjoying Death Stranding, but I recognize it probably isn’t for everyone. The first couple episodes are essentially a walking simulator with stealth and horror elements thrown in.

For those that do play, I recommend powering through the first couple episodes as quickly as possible in order to get to the third. That’s where the game really starts to pick up.

Im on chapter 2, and while I fucking love the melodic music that plays, the walking simulator part was absolutely killing me last night.

I for sure am going to power through just to find out where this story is going to go.

Without spoiling anything, fast travel opens up in the third episode.

Didn't want to burn through Outer Worlds too quickly (currently about midway through Monarch, I'm guessing), so I've been playing a couple of other games at the same time.

Unavowed - This is a classic point-and-click adventure game, although the puzzles are generally less obtuse than in a lot of those classic LucasArts games. The premise is that your character has spent the past year possessed by a demon and wreaking havoc on New York City, leaving a string of bodies and mysteries in his wake. At the start of the game, the demon is exorcised from you by a secret organization called the titular Unavowed, who then recruit you into their group so that you can help them figure out exactly what the demon was trying to accomplish and put an end to it. During each mission, you can bring along two companions, and the ones you bring determine how you will make your way through each level, as each companion has a unique ability that will help you solve puzzles or gain relevant information to progress. For example, there's a fire mage who has the ability to read anything that was destroyed by fire, such as a book or a driver's license. Another companion has the ability to know when people lie.

It's a solid game. If you like those classic LucasArts games, I'd recommend it. The voice acting isn't anything special but overall I've enjoyed the story. It's not a terribly long game and I'm nearing the end. It's available on Xbox game pass if you're also using that to play Outer Worlds like I am.

Disco Elysium - Just started this one two nights ago, so I'm not very far into it, but it's a really unique experience. I'd say it's most similar to Planescape: Torment both in premise and execution. You play a character who wakes up with no memory of who you are or where you're at and shortly after find out that you are an alcoholic detective investigating a murder. There is no actual combat in this game. Everything is dialogue, both internal and external. Any conflicts are resolved via a D&D style dice roll that checks your skills against whatever you are trying to accomplish. For example, a kid was mouthing off to me early in the game so I took a swing at him. I didn't put enough points into my physique, though, and my character subsequently whiffed on the swing and fell down and lost a health point.

What makes the game unique is the skills you are able to put points into. With each level, you can add a point to an individual skill. These are all unique. An example is Shivers, which is like that hair on your neck feeling and gives your character insight into the city around him. I'm not really 100% sure what a lot of the skills do as of yet (the descriptions tend to be a little ambiguous), but I'm slowly putting it together as I play. Looking forward to seeing where the story goes with this one. The voice acting mostly sucks (I mean it's not terrible but it's also pretty unenthusiastic) but I usually read and click next a lot faster than they can finish their lines anyways so it's not really an issue for me. I love the art style as well. It's kind of a like a dirty watercolor painting.

I'd highly recommend this one if you're into the style of game I just described.

Any death stranding updates

I’m still on the third chapter. Have had to play a little bit slower because I’ve also been trying to do schoolwork.

The first few hours of the game are undeniably slow - walking everywhere, sneaking past enemies, don’t really have a vehicle towards the end of Episode 2, don’t have much of a way to defend yourself from the different enemies that exist in this game.

Then, the end of Episode 2 hits, and it starts to pick up a lot. The (I’m assuming) main antagonist reveals themselves, and things get crazy.

I’m in the third episode now, and I’ve gained access to vehicles, been able to do a lot more world building with other players, and have viable means to defend myself. I’m finding it to be an enjoyable, atmospheric experience overall, but that’s precisely what I was expecting going into it.

Would I recommend the game? Depends. If you’re a fan of Kojima’s work, sure. If you don’t mind a bit of a slog (especially in the beginning), sure. If you can appreciate games like Red Dead Redemption 2 that force you to play slowly and methodically, sure. If you like a story that isn’t always obvious, but somewhat obscure, in which there are many pieces you have to put together, then go for it. If you like world building, especially with other online players (who you don’t interact with directly), then this game has what you’re looking for.

This is a game where the entertainment is in the travel - and you will be doing a LOT of traveling, which is kinda the point, considering the main character is a post apocalyptic delivery man. This is not an action filled, non stop rollercoaster ride like Call of Duty or even an MGS game. If the thought of that turns you off, I would recommend you skip this game or borrow it from a friend so that you’re not making any monetary commitment to it.

Overall, it’s a welcome change of pace for me. It’s a moody trip through a post apocalyptic hellscape, riddled with ghosts, terrorists, and violent addicts that will attack anyone to get their fix.

I give it 9/10.

I dont know if it's because I haven't played a cod since bo2 but I have nearly 10 hours into multiplayer and I find it far more frustrating than fun. I spend most of the time playing domination because I at least feel like I contribute.

Try Ground War so you can reacclimate yourself to CoD. Gunplay and movement is pretty different from BO2, and in GW, you don't have to worry about people constantly spawning on your ass. Stick with teammates and use cover.

If you need a good gun, use the M4A1. It's the best AR in the game.

I finally jumped into MP today. Got killed a lot, but also shed a lot of blood myself. Gonna take me time to get used to it. Haven't played seriously since AW, and never with a PS4 controller.

Been playing MP from day one, still loving it. Destroyed my k/d going for finishing moves to get the Krueger character, but have slowly been building it back up. Been having a ton of fun.
