The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh yeah, I buy those indie games to support the developers. Also, having them on steam is way more convinient.
I also love slay the spire.

I got a new PC less than a month ago and I'm a bit wary. Do you have any sites that are safer than others? You use a private tracker perhaps?
I didn't give two shits during that Kazzaa and Emule era lol. Just rather keep my PC malware free lol.

But not using torrents on a PC is a damn waste. It's probably the best thing available.

Downloading pirated software is like sleeping w/ a cheap hooker. She's dirty, probably diseased, but w/ the right tools you'll be fine.

If you're going to Torrent, I'd recommend using encryption as many ISP's specifically look for torrent traffic. You'll get a few warnings and they they'll terminate your service (Time Warner around here used to do that). However, if you use a VPN service (good ones for around $12 a month), your communication will be encrypted and your ISP can only see an encrypted connection but not the contents.

Many of the games, especially the key generators often have malware. Use a good Anti-virus kit to help prevent infections. I'm partial to Kaspersky, but I'm sure some will suggest AVG or Avast for free solutions.

For the love of God, don't use Internet Explorer. Chrome, even better Firefox w/ Noscript (pain in the ass to work w/ but locks down sites).

Periodic scanning for malware w/ Malwarebytes or Spybot: Search and Destroy is a good idea too.

Make sure to keep all updates for your OS and these security apps updated or you'll get taken out by new exploits that they won't know of yet.

That's pretty much it.

Are MBAM and Spybot S&D still recommended scanners? They were go-to generic tools back when I was into the scene like 10 years ago.

To add onto Wrathe's good baseline, I would highly recommend sticking a Pi-Hole in your environment and funneling all traffic through it.

Surprisingly, yes. I can at least attest to Malwarebytes. I suspected something flaky going on the other day and went searching for the latest scanning tools and those two were still the suggested scanners. I was clean, it was something flaky in Windows but I wanted to be sure.

Personally, I buy only now as you can't play most pirated games online and I was big into LAN parties and such. Most games started moving LAN games even into an Online required lobby (Online is an issue as it does key verification). Sometimes there's ways to bypass that, sometimes not, but every game is a unique hassle. Single player or offline play still typically works. I don't even know what sites to recommend anymore. Also, the newer something is you're looking for; the more likely it is you'll download a fake (which is just large files meant to waste your time, often seeded by companies to protect their initial sales window; makes those files look fat and juicy w/ lots of seeds).

Was looking for a challenge and bought Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice...

This game is the most difficult video game ever made. I’m not super skilled at video games, but this is just stupid..

Anyone looking for a challenge, go for it.. idk how long I’ll be able to play it because I legit just die die die die die die die die..

There’s a 30 part walkthrough online and I’ve played for probably 6 hours and haven’t made it out of part 2 of the walkthrough. Legit impossible for an average gamer

Did you play all the Dark Souls games?

That's where Sekiro (and a complete genre of games nowadays) comes from. If you want difficulty, you can always try them out as well.

Count me in as someone who kind of wishes those games had an easier difficulty level because I just don't have the time any more to get really good at games like that but would still like to experience them.

Jedi Fallen Order?

Yeah, I played and enjoyed that. It was a little clunky, and I suspect without Star Wars and lightsabers no one would have given a shit about it, but overall not a bad example of the Souls-esque genre while still allowing the game to be accessible to everyone.

I just think the argument that an easy mode takes away from the point of the game is silly. There can still be a hard mode for those that want a challenge and an easy or normal mode for those that want a game that isn't frustratingly difficult and takes tens of hours to master. I think I speak for most adults when I say we just don't have that kind of time. I want a moderate challenge that isn't too frustrating, tells an interesting story, and is generally fun to play. Games that are too hard just start to feel like work, and I work enough already.

I tend to agree in Sekiro’s case. Game is just stupidly hard.

Bloodborne and Dark Souls aren’t as hard imo. Still very challenging but not to the level I’m begging for a difficulty tweak setting. Still, think the games could benefit from one but I also get the developer’s argument that the investment required is half the satisfaction of playing those titles. I’ve definitely moved over to your line of thinking these days as I get older with more going on in life. Witcher 3 I thought was a great RPG that posed challenge but rarely got frustrating or upset me.

Highly recommend Bloodborne as the most approachable of the bunch.

Made some progress today on sekiro. Beat the first major boss (guy on the horse) and the blazing bull my first try. Still stupid hard thank god for walkthroughs

Thanks.
My computer is weird. My CPU load is just insane and the fans are working way too hard.
I'm still wary of downloading torrents. Even entering the sites warned me of some cryptominer lol.

Anyways, I bought XCOM 2.. never played XCOM 1, but I have to realize that I love turn based games.

Also, I currently enjoy playing Dying Light.
