The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm just running through all the stories in the campaign--on the last one right now.

This final one (drauven) is the first time anything was close to challenging.

Probably gonna uninstall after I'm done. Can't see me revisiting this. It was enjoyable for a bit.

I think I prefer games like FFTactics, that old one on Sega (Shining Force?), or Ogre Battle over this. The depth just isn't there to me.

Basically, just get some warriors who beat the shit out of your opponents when its their turn. Sentinel, Paladin, Vigilance. It helps that I had someone turn into a fire god. She wipes out whole groups of like 5 enemies at a time when they're bunched up.

How much have you played? You get new party members over time and I think you can have up to five at once in a fight. A lot of new enemy types are also introduced and enemies grow in strength over the course of a campaign. There are also additional campaigns that open up with different stories, although there are still procedurally generated character moments that change your characters over time and can give them new abilities.

You can also upgrade weapons and armor at the end of each chapter of a campaign to make your characters more powerful. You do this using the resources you accumulate during the campaign by securing locations.

Just a really tiny bit.. I always quit really early lol. I got to the 3rd mission or something. Obviously, not enough. I'll give it another go I suppose. I just love the lore of Xcom so much more even if the gameplay could be similar.

Like most games with a lot of RNG, difficulty can vary pretty wildly from run to run. If you get good rolls and your characters get some sick abilities, you're on easy street.

For the most part, I agree that the game isn't too challenging, but I've gotten absolutely fucked a couple of times due to bad luck.

It does definitely strike me as a game I'll enjoy for twenty hours or so and then move on. Which is fine. I got my money's worth.

You know, I have this tendency of not finishing games anymore.. is that an age thing? even if they are good. Fucked up. Bu this one, I barely even started.

I think it's a product of being an adult and having the money to buy games, especially cheap indie games like this one, on a whim without it really impacting your bottom line. Twenty bucks? I spend at least double that on bottles of whiskey all the time. Twenty bucks is three beers at a brewery.

Anyone playing Humankind? A Civilization clone, but a good one. I'm having fun..but I really like these 4x types of games.

Played Firewatch and I really enjoy this type of game that lean into an overarching narrative and consistent character development. The atmosphere and art style is really immersive and fits the setting of the Wyoming wilderness.

It's a short game sadly (ran through it in 4 hours) and story driven rather than focused on challenging game play. I would definitely get it on sale if you like games that are calming and easy to play.

I wasn't a huge fan of the direction the narrative ultimately went, but on the whole it was a gorgeous and atmospheric game.

The ending stings a bit based off how the story was going, but ultimately I believe it was the right direction. Firewatch was brief and fun while it lasted. It leaves you wanting more, wanting the picturesque ending. That bitter feeling will keep me thinking about that game for much longer than if it were to end the way I wanted it to.

The Wolf Among Us is fun. I'm too easy to please with point and click story games but it's nice to relax with video games. These short indie games really break up any negative feelings at that point in my day. 8 hours total, based off a comic about fables moving to NYC and adjusting to life outside of their respective fairytale. Definitely worth picking up if on sale.

RIP Telltale Games. Thankfully the original developers are working on a second Wolf Among Us.

Next up: Batman Arkham Asylum, Deus Ex Human Revolution, and Jedi Fallen Order. Gonna mix in some indie games here and there. Maybe some Elder Scrolls or original Fallout games too.

Didn't know they were working on a sequel to Wolf Among Us. Fucking loved that game. I thought it was by far the best game that Telltale made, probably followed by Tales from the Borderlands, which was surprisingly great.

I literally just finished a replay of Arkham Asylum a few weeks ago. Classic game.

Unrelated, but a few big announcements happened this week:

That Spider-Man 2 game is going to be wild. Norman Osborne, Venom, Kraven, and the Lizard are all basically confirmed for the game, and surely there will be a few others as well. Plus the Parker/Morales team-up. Should be a hell of a lot of fun.
