The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Personally, I've never really understood what all the fuss with Harry Potter was about anyway. Maybe it's because I started reading adult fiction in middle school and had already read better books by the time Harry Potter became a thing, but when I finally got around to reading it in college after the entire series was released, I thought the books were...fine? Not awful or anything, but nothing special. I guess by YA fantasy standards, they're above average, but that's also not saying much. Joe Abercrombie's Shattered Sea books are way better in the genre, though, and are really the only YA fantasy books I feel compelled to ever read again at this point in my life. Maybe the Mistborn books too if you count those as YA.

If I play the Hogwarts game, it'll be when it's twenty bucks or less on a Steam sale anyway. I don't see much of a point in buying single player games when they're brand new anymore except in a few rare cases, and this ain't one of them.
I’ve adopted that policy as well. Games go on sale in less than a year anymore. Best way to do it. Being a Game Pass subscriber helps too.

The entire review is here:

I don't think the numeric score or the Wired/Tired at the top is fair or representative. The 1/10 might even just be a bullshit thing to hurt the places that aggregate rankings/reviews like Metacritic.

After reading it, I also understand why the game is personal to the reviewer.

Yeah. Definitely done in good faith. :chuckle: everybody is welcome to their opinion or to boycott or do whatever the hell they want, but if you’re going to “review” a product, probably not the route to go here.

I need to finish some of the games I've already got before I sign up for Game Pass again. :chuckle:
I feel that. I just unsubbed for that reason. Will resub when Redfall and Starfield drop.

If you don't like the game because of personal reasons not based off of playing the game then why even do a review? Just state, I am not doing a review because of these factors...

Just like hating on a place like Chick-fil-A because the CEO is super religious... I've never heard worker's complain about their jobs there or deal with poor customer service... If you cannot give an unbiased review, it's best not to give a review...

I wish I could do that with the JRPGs... Some never drop in price lol I've dealt with a few that went up in price after a year of being out lol

Maybe.

Maybe all reviews are personal, and if you care enough to go read this particular person's review of the game, you should deserve to read their true feelings.

Also, yeah, this conversation should be in politics--but people don't have issue with Chick-Fil-A because their CEO is religious. They have a problem with a corporation funneling millions of dollars towards hate groups who attack LGBTQ Americans, and the fact that their president actively attacks gay people and speaks out against those people's right to get married.

Be as religious as you want. Nobody cares. Just don't make other people's lives suck because of your beliefs.

I just always feel, if you cannot give an unbiased as possible review, you shouldn't give one...

Now if I gave a review on a first person shooter. I'm not going to give a good one since I hate that style of game and have always been bad at it. So I won't give a review since I won't be able to give a legit one. That's just my belief...

If I had to give a review for a first person shooter, I will put it at the top stating I specialize in turn based games and to take my review with a grain of salt. Plus it's very very weird to give any game a 1/10 at the end of the day... To me that's not a true review

I'm with you--I give unbiased reviews. Even on things that are just for me, like Untappd, I try to rate the beers based off how they pulled off what they were attempting rather than strictly how much I enjoyed it.

However, if someone wants to be 100% personal about their review, that's their prerogative. I really don't have a problem with it. There are even people who I would seek out to find their personal feelings, rather than a bland objective take. I've really found those sorts of reviews helpful with whiskey--when I find someone whose palate matches my own, that's valuable to me.

I would say that review compilation websites like Metacritic should probably leave those off the index though. Who knows--maybe they already do filter out outliers.

I'm weird when I look at reviews... I always look at the 3 and 4 star ones before any others cause I feel like they say more about the issues with something...

if someone rates anything a 7/10, they are not to be trusted.

Started playing Persona 3 Portable today, and about an hour and a half in, I'm struck by how much more upbeat the music is than in P5R.
