The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Activision is living in the past. People don't want yearly releases. They want to be a community and grow together over the years. I haven't bought a COD in years, but my group of friends is playing DMZ like crazy. I have only bought the original season pass and played it enough to earn the next pass without paying.

I am not paying $60 a year for minimal upgrades. They need to go back to a release every 2 to 3 years and actually build a good game and grow the community that they have. Sports titles also need to get away from the yearly release, but both have a hard time to figure out how they will continue to get that money.

It’s been a yearly release since 2007 (COD4, which in my humble opinion was the pinnacle of the series). At first it was fine because it was a new product that ushered in a new era of online gaming. World at War and MW2 were similarly fantastic releases, and Black Ops, while not my favorite, was certainly popular as well.

At this point, they’re just re-releasing old maps, pumping out a few garbage new ones, and rehashing the same stale gameplay while making money hand over fist with microtransactions and season passes.

Why bother to change it if you’re still making billions? People bitch about it and then go right out and buy the next installment, act like it’s a breath of fresh air for a month or two, and then realize they’ve been sold the exact same product they bought 5-10 years ago, with the exact same flaws.

Rinse and repeat.

Started playing dayz recently, I'm on a moded server. The pvp is so real its on a different level, unforgiving. I am enjoying it though

You're absolutely right. I haven't really played since MW2 since Black Ops was trash. Once Infinity Ward left after MW2, I avoided the game as much as possible. We played PUBG for a while, then a bit of WarZone (yes it played smoother but was still just COD). I enjoy the DMZ even with the flaws because it's a game a bunch of us can go in and play while each infil has it's own way of playing out.

I watched less and less people buy Madden each year when I worked at Gamestop and I would assume that COD has been the same. Gamers have a limit of playing too much of the same style of games, we are always looking for something new and engaging.

On a happier note, Tears of the Kingdom has received damn near universal perfect reviews. Although I didn't enjoy Breath of the Wild as much as some, I still have this one on preorder.

Hah, I followed the same path. Quit after original MW2 and returned for Modern Warfare 2019, which was a great game, and then Warzone took things to a whole other level. That first year or two of Warzone was incredible. But then they started integrating it with the new releases and prioritized microtransactions over everything and just ruined it. Personally, I quit Warzone when they moved to Caldera. Played one match of Warzone 2 and then never touched it again. I agree with you that DMZ is fun (easily the best mode in this game) but they of course went and fucking ruined that too this season with all the damn pay2win microtransactions. That was the final straw for me, I haven't touched the game this season and won't again. It's a shame too because DMZ really is a great mode, but they destroyed it just like they destroyed Warzone.

Every year, people say they’re not gonna buy it anymore… and then they go on to buy it.
After getting every COD since COD2, I finally said and meant this in 2020. Now I get my multiplayer fix with Splatoon.

Havent bought CoD since Cold War. Which I liked.

Think I’m over them though. Too much other amazing shit to play. This year has been nuts. And is only going to get better. We havent even seen Diablo, Final Fantasy, Baldurs Gate and Starfield yet. Sheesh.

Yeah, the pay-to-win stuff is frustrating and will eventually kill it off this season, but with the yearly release, people will slink back into the new iteration.

We load in two teams and group up and have fun that way on Al Mazrah, so the stuff they are doing to help the others is nice for the smaller teams and solos.

I just realize some classic N64 games can be played online with Switch now. Including Mario Party 1+2 and Pokemon Stadium.

I don't have a Switch but I might have to get one now..

Going to try to beat BotW before moving onto TotK.

I’m so lost in this game. It’s great.

It also makes me feel like an idiot sometimes when I realize how simple the solutions to some of the shrines are. I find I keep forgetting the new abilities and trying to solve things in much more difficult ways than necessary.

Today I learned that, if you fuse a rocket to your shield, you will shoot a few hundred feet in the air when you try to block an enemy attack. :chuckle:
