The "What are you playing now?" Thread

I'm watching a YouTube playthrough of Half-Life: Alyx since my computer is nowhere near good enough to play the game and I don't have a VR headset. This game looks absolutely fucking terrifying. And they throw you into the goddamn deep end too. First area you go through is zombie and headcrab central.

Have never really seriously entertained the thought of getting a VR before this game came out.

Still holding out hope for an eventual Half-Life 3 before I die. :chuckle:

Supposedly the end of Alyx all but confirms a non-VR Half-Life sequel.

After what I've seen so far, this is probably going to be the game that pushes me to get a VR. I'm gonna have to do some research, as the price seems pretty steep depending on what you decide to get.

Busted out mgs5, this game really is fun.

Been getting back into Slay the Spire the past week or so since there's not much else to do and it's a game I've always very much enjoyed. I did a strength build last night and killed the Slime Boss in round two. He never even got to split. I also killed the Transient, which is an enemy that has 999 health and only sticks around for five rounds before disappearing. First time I've ever managed to beat him, and I did it in the final round with a Heavy Blade attack that did over 700 damage. That was satisfying.

I had a negative effect that wouldn't allow me to heal at camp sites either and still managed to easily beat the final boss. That build was ridiculous. Demon Form (+3 strength every round), Heavy Blade, two Inflames (+3 strength) and two Limit Breaks (doubles your current strength), plus three or four Flexes, which, when combined with Limit Break, are fucking crazy. I also got the relic that upgraded my +6 healing after each fight to +12, which was huge for an otherwise fragile build. The game gifted me two relics that increased my max health as well.

A few fights got a little rough, but if I got lucky with the way my deck was dealt to me, I would just demolish most enemies.

Runs like that almost make you forget how absolutely brutal the game can be most of the time.

I loved the fourth character they introduced. When I upgraded to the beta to play him, I beat up through ascension 10 on everything, then just started running him (Watcher I think he's called). Think I got to ascension 17 or so.

Slay the Spire is one of the best PC games out there, and the fact that it's still being continuously upgraded, for free, is just absurd.

The Watcher is the most fun cause it forces you to plan ahead. Probably my favorite character out of them all. Defect is a close second.

Last few runs for me have been ridiculous. I got dead branch on an Ironclad with Corruption, Barricade, dark embrace and Charon Ashes as a relic.
With the Defect I rolled Snecko eye as the 1st relic and drafted 3 Meteor Strikes by ACT 2. Haha.
Had Dead Branch on my last 3 runs -_- Even managed to win one with the Watcher and beat the Heart.

I'm only on Ascension 7 though. Pretty easy to climb to be honest, and when I reach the Heart I usually kill it cause my guys are maxing out.

Half life alyx is amazing. Might just be the best vr game I've ever played. It's super immersive, everything is scaled correctly and the shooting and reloading feel very nice. I could spend an hour just using the gravity gloves to pull stuff to me and catching it. It's also pretty legitimately scary. Had me sweating a few times.

What VR headset do you have?

I'll be honest. My plan was to sit out this generation of VR and wait for a better set (or for the price of a quality set like the Valve Index to not be a grand). But Alyx has me debating dipping my toe in. I'm torn between the Index and the Vive Pro right now I think

Strongly debating using my tax return to buy a new computer and an Index.

Yeah, I'm really having to fight the temptation to go get an Index. My computer can support it. Just not sure I can justify dropping a grand on a VR right now with all the new games coming out soon, not to mention the next gen consoles coming out later this year.

FWIW, Alyx is included when you purchase a new one.
