The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Have had my PS5 for about 2 months now, and my dualsense controller is already suffering stick drift. Valhalla is almost unplayable as the right stick shoots to the top of the screen randomly. I discussed with Sony and they said I can likely get it repaired under warranty but there's no fix at home, so I'm monitoring it further.

Totally sucks to drop that amount of money and to have a faulty product this early.
All 3 companies ran into this issue last gen, ps4/xb1/switch. For the cost of these items one would hope for better design or components, yet here we are again.

I know I have to have my buddy look at a button issue with my Xbox Elite 2 controller, because Microsoft didn't do enough QA or just let it slip on by. Originally only had a 90 warranty that I didn't realize it until after the fact. I shouldn't be shocked, but I was hopeful that they would fix these issues.

This is why I no longer am an early adopter of new consoles. Literally every console generation there is at least one issue, and often some major issues, with these new machines because they got rushed out the door to meet a deadline.

Pulled the trigger and ordered an Index. It's going to be my first entry into VR.

Any recommendations? Besides Alyx and Beatsaber, I don't have anything specific planned. I'll probably have to give SuperHot another run through.

Got Valheim with some buddies of mine a few days ago. It has consumed my non-working hours. Very addicting when you're with friends, especially. So grateful they did not make it PVP like Rust or those types of games.

Think I’m gonna jump in tonight. Can’t resist any longer!

It reminds me of back when Stardew Valley came out. Game is just a time sink where you can get locked in to a task and then suddenly it's three hours later and you realize you're eating dinner an hour later than you usually do.

I literally spent an hour tonight building a little gazebo with a fire pit outside behind my longhouse. It doesn't even serve any tangible purpose. I just thought it looked cool. Next up is a lighthouse that, much like the fire pit, will have absolutely zero practical functionality.

I also spent entirely too much time gathering resources just so I could decorate the blacksmith building that I built, which is also functioning as my in-game house at present where I store all of my extra gear and resources.

Started it, no fucking clue what I’m doing

Highly recommend consulting a wiki that tells you how shit works. The game doesn't offer much in the way of tutorials.

Starting out, make sure you stick to the Meadows, as it's the only place that's reasonably safe for you right now. Pick up anything you can find on the ground. Sticks, rocks, mushrooms, berries, flint, etc. Picking up things unlocks recipes that contain the item you just picked up.

Find a reasonably safe spot that's in the Meadows but within a minute or so walk from a Black Forest area and make that your starting base. You won't be going into the Black Forest for a bit, but you want your first base to at least be close because you'll be spending a lot of time there once you beat the first boss. Just make sure it's not within line of sight of the Black Forest or you may find yourself dealing with enemies you're not well matched against just yet.

Speaking of Valheim, I added a watch tower / lighthouse to my growing village.

I wanted to get it from another angle too but it started storming and the screenshot I took lacked visibility. I was about to log off for the night and didn't feel like waiting for the storm to pass. I'll get a proper shot tomorrow.

Anyway, the shot above shows you some of the things that are possible with this game. You can make some really nice looking settlements. I'm planning to add a few more buildings in the near future, but as I'm building on a hillside I'm going to have to use my pickaxe and tear down a lot of terrain. Plus, I'll have to devote some of my time to exploring the Plains now that we are upgraded enough to explore there.

ETA: If you're curious about what the glowing rocks in the distance are, that's the spawn point where new players are dropped into the server. It's also where you hang the trophies from the bosses you've beaten, which causes the rocks to glow.

Gathered a bunch of shit then quit for the night. Gonna read up a bit then jump back in tonight and try to actually do something, lol. I’ll take this advice to heart.

I will tell you what, comparing my work to the work of others in this game really hammers home my relative lack of creativity lol

I watched a few videos on YouTube that gave me a lot of great ideas. The longhouse I built was mostly following a how to video, although I eventually tweaked it with some of my own designs to make it more functional.

But a lot of what I've done with roof and chimney designs in the game was based on videos I saw that opened me up to some of the possibilities that game allows that aren't obvious on the surface.

Just adding fences and grass outside of buildings also goes a long way toward making them look better and more life like.

We finished off the (current) final boss in Valheim. The final two bosses were honestly a little underwhelming. They looked cool, and the metal music in the background combined with the designs of the bosses themselves made for an epic feel.

But it took us less than five minutes to beat each of them. Under three minutes for the game's fourth boss and four or so for the final one. There was never a moment in the fight when I felt like I was going to die. I don't think my health dropped below 75%.

Now it's time to continue building my village and exploring more of the world map, of which we've barely even scratched the surface.

Anyone still hunting for next gen consoles? I was gonna wait till later in the year but I’m at the point where if one pops I’ll snag it. I plan on getting both eventually.

Starting to think this shortage could last the year though.

I'm only missing out on a couple games because I can't find one. I'm in no rush. I've got a backlog of games that goes back at least 20+ years anyway.
