The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I bought a deck building game called Slay the Spire during a Steam Sale a while ago for like $5. It's a pretty chill game that I've found myself playing in the background while watching the Cavs. Would recommend for people like me who always need to be doing more than one thing at once lol

Slay the Spire is still the best rougelike game I've played.

Welcome to five years ago. :chuckle:

Seriously addictive game, though. Very well designed.

Slay the Spire is still the best rougelike game I've played.

I’d give that crown to Darkest Dungeon or Hades but Spire is definitely right behind them. The other two just had more going on with regards to art design and writing that put them over the edge for me.

Just finished Persona 5. The game was up to the hype. Great narrative, great characters, great music. Highly recommend
I’m still having trouble falling in love with the game.
The game seems too much on rails and repeat for almost everything.

And the narrative has been kinda ridiculous so far with the whole “we are going to teach the shitty adults a lesson by stealing their ‘hearts’”.

Both Darkest Dungeons didn't do it for me. They were fine, but I never played them the way I played STS.

Hades is great. Still think STS is better. To be that great of a game with such a simple concept is pretty awesome.

I hated what they did with the second Darkest Dungeon, but the first is one of my favorite games ever. The art is absolutely gorgeous and the gameplay is addictive as hell despite being brutally unfair at times. Plus the guy who does the narration is incredible.

The game can be a real grind. I liked it but its not for everyone.

There are some spoiler related reasons for the later. Worth giving it a go for sure

I fell in love with it off the first act. If someone isn't a big fan of the narrative, then I guess they don't need to waste 100 hours finishing the game.

Amazon's sale on AMD CPUs has prompted me to finally get around to building a new PC. I've been relying on GeForce Now for the bulk of my PC gaming of late, as my computer is on its absolute last legs and just doesn't run much of anything that's graphically intensive even remotely well. The new Monkey Island ran perfectly fine, but it's gotten to the point where even old games like Team Fortress 2 run like shit unless I use GFN.

I am opting for a lower end build that will allow me to play new releases at 1080p for the next couple of years before I need to upgrade the GPU. I'm not really all that interested in VR, as the only game that entices me all that much is Half-Life: Alyx, and one game just isn't enough for me to spend several hundred or more on a VR rig when my time for gaming these days is limited.

I'm building around the Ryzen 5600X and Radeon RX 6650 XT, the latter of which I haven't actually ordered yet because I want to see if anything better goes on sale for Black Friday.

I've been rocking a 5900X and a 6800XT for about two years now. Finally upgraded off the i7-2600K that lasted me an eternity and the still very capable 1080Ti. Only gripe is VR-related. The video encoder in the RDNA2 GPU's can't handle video above 4K.

Sucks. I was really looking forward to Darkest Dungeon 2.

Hey, you might like it. Plenty of people do.

I just wasn't a fan of the format. I really enjoyed the estate aspect of the first game, and the building of a roster of characters that get more skilled and stronger as they survive repeated treks into hell. When you lost a high level character, it hurt.

In the new game, every run is a new four characters and, when the run is over, those characters are gone for good. That just doesn't seem as fun to me. I've watched one of the few streamers I follow play it, as he was the one who turned me on to the original game and I watched him play it quite a bit, but I have much less interest in playing this one myself. It's still fun enough to watch, though.

This is going to sound weird, but the vibes I got playing through it were more akin to Mass Effect 2. You go on missions around the galaxy with the other guardians, make decisions on how you want to proceed, or on disagreements between party members. They each have their own special abilities that you use for gameplay purposes, and between missions you walk around the Milano and speak to each of the crew about various things. Nice interweaving stories between the crew members and the larger over arching plot.

Combat is fine, but I really find myself drawn to the narrative and banter between the party members.

Oh, and the soundtrack is GOAT level. I don't want to know how much they paid for the licenses to some of the songs they have, but there are a lot of original tracks too (both traditional orchestra and rock n roll Star Lord type tracks for his walk-man)

Just checked, and apparently it won best narrative at the 2021 Game Awards and was nominated a bunch for audio/song collections.
Finished GOTG this morning. Nailed the ending. Packed an emotional punch, but I laughed a lot too. Really hope they make a sequel. A lot to dig into in terms of lore.
