I’m sorry but this is kinda like wrestling to me. Like at one point I’m watching—take a little break and I come back to something I don’t recognize any longer...

Cavs are playing the Knicks tonight in Madison Square Garden and the Knicks are wearing some jersey that literally has nothing to do with the New York Knicks and says the city never sleeps... F-U NIKE!!

This isn’t COVID related with empty stadiums either or anything like that... Cause the NFL and MLB just did the same thing but their game and uniforms and product at least looks recognizable to a degree...

Everything about the NBA today looks like old CBA (for those that remember) or like D-League/G-League stuff.

From the jerseys to the fact that half the teams have players nobody has ever heard of or know of... I mean we literally went from Cavs vs Warriors for 4 straight intense series to a league where every night it’s Hawks 187 T-Wolves 152... Trae Young had 68pts and 38ast Darnell McClendon came off the bench for the Hawks and had 37pts and 8ast and 41 turnovers....

Timberwolves had a nice showing from D-Lo with 88pts and little known 19 year old who was the 34th pick in the draft from Florida State: Sushi Collins with 41pts and 17 steals....

At least the Cavs are watchable again tho.... But man I went from I love this game to WTF is this ?

Drummond does put in stretches of the game where he emulates Matt Fish.

Google that one, kids.

Agreed. I can only hope it’s part of a large cycle. Maybe like 10+ years from now they’ll get tired of flops, intentional fouls, and baby fouls on jump shooters and they’ll establish a style of play more conducive to 15 years ago.

Take that back! Sushi Collins is an amazing player!

Outside of our Cavs and Lebron, the NBA hasn’t interested me in over a decade. I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of D, the players basically running the league and a spineless/gutless Commish.

It’s really not a lack D really.....it’s the league not allowing the good defensive players to play defense! That along with the other NBA players with poor defensive skills makes it unwatchable! It’s strictly a 3 Ball league now! Hell the ABA, who invented the 3 Ball shot, didn’t shoot it this much.

I remember 20 years ago when people said the Spurs were unwatchable and boring..... I’d basically give anything to watch a Spurs-like game in today’s NBA...

Sounds like a bunch of nostalgic guys are about to get together and rail about the modern nba and say no one plays D, etc etc

Let me just drop this video here that gives the full context of the rule changes and even analyzes fouls in some old Jordan vs the Knicks games. It’s very much worth the 20 minutes.

I just feel like the modern game gets too much of a bad rap. There’s a reason why the game is so exhausting that players can’t play the same minutes they did in the 90s. Didn’t AI even average over 40 minutes? Nowadays guys are running out and challenging shooters, fighting endless screens further and further from the basket. Remember when guys like Earl Boykins and Mugsy Bogues could survive in the league? Impossible nowadays, athletically.

This is just the natural evolution of a game over time. People said the whole dunking and dribbling would kill basketball in the ABA era and now its a fundamental part of the game. The math suggests what the best way to play is, but ultimately it comes down to utilizing the best talents you have in the way that makes the most sense. There is no use pining over how "things were better in the old days," in basketball or anything. Progress is inevitable.

I personally love the high octane offenses we have in the league now. Foul-baiting is a little excessive (looking at you Trae and Harden) sometimes, but the most entertaining teams still run on motion. I really enjoy watching the current Cavs team, the Nuggets, and even the Heat last year. Even the Wizards do some cool stuff. Sure, there are some teams that are awful to watch, like the Spurs lineup with DDR/LMA or whatever garbage Minny is throwing out. But on the whole, the game is way better than the mid 00s when it was slow as a snail and just a bunch of wings dribbling into contested 15 foot jumpers. I guess we still have Drummond to do that...

A lot of players into today’s game don’t even know basic fundamental defense ie o

Yeah it is nostalgic! Because the vast majority of players in today’s games lack basic fundamental defensive skills! So many of today’s players get beat back door cuts on a regular basis. Why? Because they lack the fundamental of positioning their body so they can see their man and the ball. Harden gets beat on back door cuts 5-6 times a game. So does Cryie. Nobody knows how to cut off a player’s strong hand. Nobody has realized yet that no matter where Harden goes on the court he is always coming back left! Yet nobody forces him right. And the players that DO play defense are handcuffed by the league because the league wants to see high scoring games! I will never forget a couple of years ago when the Rockets were playing the Dubs! Patrick Beverly got all up in Durant’s jersey in a playoff game, frustrated the hell out of Durant who only scored 11 points. The very next game it was like Silver called the refs and said “we can’t have our stars being shown up” and what happens? Beverly gets hits with three quick foul calls in the first quarter essentially taking him out of the game defensively. And the three point shot has gotten out of control as well! Two years I watch the Jazz and Nuggets play a game. With 1:30 left in the game the Jazz had the ball down one point 97-96. In that last 1:30 the Jazz (who never loss possession of the ball) took FOUR 3 point shots. Never once attempted to attack the rim or the paint to draw a foul. Their last play (still only down one point) with five seconds remaining was an out bounds play specially designed for Mitchell to take a corner three! RIDICULOUS! Yessssssss to me the game is boring and predictable.

The math says go for the three then you go for the three. I trust statistics way more than anything else when it comes to this.

Have you seen the Milwaukee Bucks blue or the Miami Heats pink jerseys? What the hell is up with the shitty jerseys these days? lol

Like all sports... game will bounce between physical and finesse. We’re in a finesse phase right now.
