TOLEDO, Ohio -- Toledo junior center Haris Charalambous died Monday after collapsing during conditioning practice.

After Charalambous collapsed, trainers performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, university spokesman Lawrence Burns said.

The cause of death was not immediately known.

"This has been a shock to our entire athletic program and university," Burns said.

Terrible the 2nd death this week for an athlete :thumbdown Jigo feel free not to post in here because it's awful to have to read a sad attempt at being funny when you try to make fun of the deceased.

This is what really scares me.....I push myself so hard in basketball and all this stuff coming around really freaks you out...

Being in basketball, its really tough sport conditioning wise, so it always worries me. I hate hearing stories like this.

I know how ya feel.. I'm in the same boat...

It's my understanding that most of these sports related deaths are the result of genetic defects, like a weak heart. Most people don't have the defect and can push themselves very hard with no damage done. When I say most people don't have the defect, I'm talking 99.99% or more. Think of how many kids play football and basketball, then think how many fatalities there are.

Obviously it's a terrible tragedy when one of these fatalities occur, but for you athletes out there still in the game it's not worth worrying about. You have to live your life, and worrying is a complete waste. You could quit the basketball team tomorrow for fear of death, and die in a car wreck on your way home. Live your life, and don't worry about things you can't control.
