I thought it'd be fun and create a little more friendly banter if we did goofy top 5 lists weekly.

So, first. Top 5 Chips!

5. Lays Sour Cream and Onion
4.Herr's Salt and Vinegar
3. Doritos Cool Ranch
2. Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream
1. And this is by a wide mile, Chili Cheese Fritos

Here's my top five, influenced by taste, memory connected to the chip, and availability.

5. Kettle Backyard Barbeque - Like potato chip candy. For the past two years, my youngest son consistently steals the family size bag and hides behind the same tree in the backyard.

4. Hawaiian Sweet Maui Onion - If you ever go to Hawaii, they look at you like you are an asshole if you eat any other brand. They are really nice paired with a cold cut sandwich for a sweet chip.

3. Trader Joe's Cheddar Horseradish - Seasonal, and the lack of availability makes it that much better when you get your hands on a bag. A roast beef sandwich with these on the side? Fucking heaven.

2. Cajun Spice Ruffles - The first artisanal chip back in the 1980s. Kids back then didn't know chips could have flavors, and the ridiculous Louisiana grandpa had the best commercials. I'd do Rick Sanchez type dimensional chaos to have another bag.

1. Kettle Pepperoncini - The perfect mix of salt, sour, spice, crunch. The chip isn't the star of the meal, it should compliment a hot dog or sandwich. Completely slept on with the 40+ other Kettle flavors.

I'm all about the kettle cooked potato chips. The thin shitty greasy ones aren't worth it.

Cape Cod salt and vinegar is great. The rest are probably all kettle flavors.

For non-potato chips, Garden Salsa Sun Chips are my king. Original Pringles and whatever flavor of Doritos I feel like are occasional guilty/drunk pleasures

If you're around Columbus, I suggest OH! Chips.

Growing up in Lancaster I still can't go wrong with a big bag of Conn's wavy with some good homemade dip.

Hard to find where I live, and when I finally got my hands on a bag they didn't hold up to my memory. They are very mild. I want blisters on my tongue after eating too many salt and vinegar chips.

Lay's kettle style salt and vinegar are actually fantastic for a mass produced national potato chip.

Hmm, I'm going mostly off memory. I'm with you--salt and vinegar has to be potent. For some reason, the Cape Cod bag hits that in my memory.

I don't really keep potato chips on hand. The only chip-like snack I keep on hand (not counting tortilla chips) is Cheez-Its.

I hear you. They are horrible for your waistline. I like a few with a sandwich or hot dog for lunch. I figure my kids don't get to have any junk food at school, so the least I can do is hook them up on the weekends.

Keetle Pepperoncini has overtaken all the salt and vinegar options for me.

I've just gotten hooked on putting Kraut on sandwiches to give that extra flavor and crunch, plus fermented things are good for you.

Over here, Cleveland Kraut has done a really good job.

No Ballreich up in here?
So good w/ French Onion Dip.
