Trade ideas: Offseason edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cleveland receives: Deni Avdija & Chandler Hutchinson

Washington receies: Isaac Okoro

Why?

Cleveland swaps a wing for a prospect better suited for the PF position.

Washington takes a swing @ Okoro. They already have Hachimura who is similar to Avdija.

Draft Kuminga to replace Okoro.

So we're going to pay market price for two developmental centers. Great.
Hartenstein is slightly past being developmental imo. He needs to stay out of foul trouble better, but it is clear he has above average court vision. Hell he showed off crisp passing ability, high iq, and still gets labelled back up by most.
I would consider letting Allen walk if it is going to cost 25 mil per to retain him, because Hartenstein is here.
I fully expect Hartenstein to turn down his PO and leave if they pay Allen what his agent is expecting from other teams.

Avdija looks like a bust and a massive overrated player who needs a ton of development.
Cavs are not trading someone, they just drafted last year. It never happens much, unless you are
welcoming home Lebron and preparing for championship runs. I guess if someone offers them a top 6 pick they might
consider it, but I doubt it.

I'd personally try to keep both. Hartenstein could be retained for a reasonable price.

The Cavs have to make sure they get right player out of this draft before they extend anybody as we go forward in this rebuild. I read somewhere that 2023 is the summer where we are expected to have close to $37 million. So we can’t jeopardize that opportunity with acquiring bad contracts to eat up that cap space.

He’s not “labeled” a backup. He is a backup. 97 games in three years, started four, and averages just over 10 mpg.

Backup.

Soured on your takes pal. I don't judge someone, never given much of an opportunity, but when given it and played like someone who could break into a starting line up on a good team. I think especially on this roster ,and especially when Allen is not interested in playing like we saw some of the time. No motivation , there's the door as my take on Allen before gifting him unearned paychecks

You are judging both centers. You have decided Allen has no motivation and that Hartenstein is an NBA starter. I respect your opinions although I disagree with both, but you‘re making judgement calls and advocation specific actions based on same.

The Cavaliers are not going into next season with Hartenstein projected as a starter.

Nor should they, but he plays well enough that he could fill that gap and should be kept. So imo, if they are facing the issue of having to overpay Allen, if he gets a $100,000,000 offer sheet. That is a lot of zeros for a non stretch big who sometimes does not play with a lot of fire, not with the intensity to justify that kinda broccoli anyway

I think Washington could be a good landing spot for Love. They get a vet ready to help them win with Westbrook and Beal.

They just have alot of money already tied up between Westbrook and Beal so it hard for them to make a trade for Love with other contracts they currently have. A multi team deal is probably necessary so they get some pieces back for the guys they give up.

If it help them keep Beal, I think the Wizards would give up Deni or Hachimura. Maybe we give them a couple second round picks too.

There is no reason for us to give up Okoro though. Wizards will either be desperate to put together a win now group around Beal or they will try to trade Beal and Westbrook away and start a rebuild.

Washington doesn't have the salaries needed to get Love in trade. Not without gutting their roster (outside of Beal and Russ) and giving up pieces they value...

Which I stated in my second paragraph..... They will have to figure out a multi team deal to refill some of that depth. The wizards could trade away Bertans, Bryant, and Deni to get Love plus a couple small contracts. Bertans might get them some value back from another team. I'm not sure how valuable Bryant is.

If they want to keep Beal they are going to have to make a swing for someone and they probably have to do it in the off-season vs the deadline. If they hold off to the deadline, Beal might request a trade.

If their idea of a “swing” is to trade capable bodies and young recent lottery picks for the corpse of Kevin Love, he should request a trade.

Expecting that kind of value back for Love at this point is laughable. A Love trade almost assuredly requires us to give up more value than we bring back.

Washington is indeed a great landing spot for Kevin Love. If they get desperate, we might be able to offload Love while getting some value back.

Cleveland receives: Davis Bertans, Thomas Bryant & Chandler Hutchinson

Washington receives: Kevin Love

Why?

Cleveland moves on from Love. In this trade, they get some value. Bertans is signed on a reasonable deal & is one of the best shooting big man in the league. Bryant is a starting calliber player coming off an injury.

Washington gambles on Love regaining some of his form. He'd be a nice fit next to their two stars.

Bryant isn't a capable body because he is coming off an ACL tear. I would expect Bertans to get moved to a 3rd team and we get an expiring instead or a two year contract of the same size. Washington get the assets from that 3rd team for Bertans.

Deni is the value the Cavs get which I would agree can be seen as more than what Love is worth but I do think the Cavs give up a couple second round picks in the deal to get him. I don't think the Cavs get value from many teams for Love but a few teams will be desperate to get some help for their teams this year. I think Portland and the Wizards may give up something to get Love.

The wizards have both Deni and Hachimura who are PFs, it doesn't make sense to hold on to both if they bring in Love. There just won't be enough minutes to keep developing both. I assume we would get the one they like least out of the two which I think is Deni.
