Trade ideas: Offseason edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Other teams receive: Collin Sexton and Isaac Okoro

Cleveland receives: a backhand across the chops from Blazie

Why?

Because I'm not trading these young guys right now. There's no real incentive to move off any of them... the only one who needs to get paid soon is your best, most industrious player who, by all accounts,, is going to be reasonable with his contact demands. A year from now.

There's also not much to gain by making lateral moves based on 2-3 inches in height. We have strung together a couple of 20-win seasons. Let's finally get all the talent together first, see what actually works, and then move what doesn't.

But ah, what the hell:

Cleveland receives: Cam Reddish

Atlanta receives: Cedi Osman, 2023 1st rd pick (top 3 protected)

Why?

Because I'm bored out of my mind at work right now.

Also, apologies for referring to myself in the 3rd person...
Wow I like the first part of the offer giving them Osman but a top 3 protected 2023 first? Way too much.
That would be an immediate firing offense for Koby.
Reddish very well might be available maybe a couple second rounders added to Osman?

GS has already said those two youngsters are off the table as far as trade bait is concerned. GS is up there in age so they are trading away their young kids
That’s the smart play too. Who knows if Klay makes it back and, even if he does, he could be a shell of his former self.

Agreed. Most of us would like to see the Cavs acquire Reddish, but not at that cost. Atlanta is so stinkin’ deep, it’s hard to say how many minutes Reddish will even get there.

Travis Schlenk has done a heckuva job in Atlanta. He could’ve gotten obliterated for passing on Doncic, but Trae Young has turned into quite a fine player in his own right. I’m not sure there is a more talented roster in the East than Atlanta.

More than likely, Schlenk would get over on Koby Altman in a trade, so passing on a Reddish trade may be a good thing.

Top 3 is too much. I'd give them a top 10 protected pick. I think they'd bite.

I wonder if the Hornets would be willing to do something centered around Gordon Hayward for Love. Hayward has an extra year on his contract compared to Love (assuming they would work a buyout with him), and it is almost time to pay Bridges.

Trade #1:

Cleveland receives: Keldon Johnson & Lonnie Walker IV

San Antonio receives: Collin Sexton

Why?

Cleveland needs wings.

San Antonio could use a talent infusion on their roster.

Trade #2:

Cleveland receives: Cameron Reddish

Atlanta receives: Isaac Okoro

Why?

Cleveland needs a taller small forward.

Atlanta gets a defensive specialist with upside.

PG: Darius Garland / Ricky Rubio / Kevin Pangos
SG: Keldon Johnson / Lonnie Walker IV
SF: Cameron Reddish / Cedi Osman / Dylan Windler / Lamar Stevens
PF: Evan Mobley / Lauri Markkanen / Dean Wade / Kevin Love
C: Jarrett Allen / Mfondu Kabengele
Coach: J.B. Bickerstaff

Thanks for not including 1st rounders anymore.

One problem is ATL doesn't really need anyone the Cavs have including Osman.
Maybe they would want Rubio as a backup but the Cavs need him to help Garland.
I think there are plenty of waivers soon or already happening that offer similar potential at the 3 despite
being less polarizing as Reddish who was once considered a 5 star recruit. He
really hasn't done anything well at Duke or NOP besides occasionally getting hot from 3 and making some
smart defensive plays every once in awhile. He is not consistently good at all imo.
I like his potential but there is a lot of immaturity it seems as well.
I would rather talk Sekou into get his ass to CLE in the next week and to hell with him ring chasing as a 20 year old with Lebron.
If he joins the Lakers he will be waived again later though so maybe we can get him then.
The sleeper option might be AJ Lawson 2/3 recently waived who could be a good pick up for the Cavs with their up tempo direction matching his game well.

I would trade Okoro for Reddish. Okoro would go home to ATL and be reunited with Sharife Cooper. Okoro also has an additional year remaining on his rookie deal. Hawks have so many wings on their roster so who knows what they are thinking though.

why would ATL want Okoro again? Huerter easily ahead of him at the 2 and Hunter or Johnson at the 3.
Okoro will get more time to develop in CLE probably since he was always a multiyear project pick. They could have taken Vassell or similar in the same role and maybe got a little higher floor off ball but on ball there were not any wings left with as much potential even if some are better now. Reddish aint better than Okoro either and hes in the league a year longer

I think the logic is they will have to pay Reddish earlier, and Okoro appears to be more interested in defense and team play.. While Reddish has flashed skill, his overall contribution is lower than Hunter and Huerter, and they just drafted a guy that has the same ceiling..

Atlanta is trying to reach the finals within thier window, and they are looking good right now. They have a lot of assets, and Reddish is one of them. I think they could draw a ring chasing player pretty easily.. Someone like a Harden could put them over the top.. .more relevant to us, I think it would take more than okoro to pick up Reddish, and to be honest, I think we have a better shot signing him as an RFA. The Hawks are not going to be able to pay everyone Collins money. And Reddish is not first second or third in line..

The question is: Do we want to pay him? He is a dice roll, and to my mind could become a problem.. I like Cam Johnson better as a team mate..

There are also a pile of small forwards in Toronto, so I am wondering if we could snag one of theirs..

I think Reddish is worth no more than a late first after a strong season off the bench for the Hawks. RIght now he is worth a high 2nd and a replacement level vet with no upside.
Hawks will eventually flip him for some kind of non guaranteed future asset and a expiring if he isn't getting them what they want for him soon which is pretty obvious not going to happen. Nobody imo is giving them a late lottery pick for a player who does not have consistency with his reputable skills but instead has consistency with his shortcomings.

Cleveland receives: DeJounte Murray & Lonnie Walker
San Antonio receives: Darius Garland, Cedi Osman & Dylan Windler

Why?
Cleveland gets a tall PG to pair with Sexton & a young wing.
San Antonio gets a guard with all star potential, a 3 pt specialist & a good all around player in Osman.

:chuckle:

Mobley looks like a star.

Now is not the time to aim for garbage in garbage out moves.

Now is the time to be hyper aggressive if a true young star player is available.

Just trying to stack a young star next to him, even if it is costly in the short term.

I'm much more willing to attach draft assets to players like Garland or Sexton, if it nets us a young star to grow with Mobley.

Like call the Pelicans.....and just see what happens....

CLE: Ingram, Satoransky
NOP: Sexton, Love, Unprotected 1st, 2nd

New Lineup:

PG - Garland
SG - Okoro
SF - Ingram
PF - Mobley
C - Allen

That lineups SLAPS :chuckle:

Maybe NOP says no.......but to me, that is the avenue we should be going. Not similar pieces for similar pieces. Aim for a clear upgrade and spend some draft capital if necessary.
