With Mobley, we need a much longer term view in any trade that is of a more significant cost.

Plugging roster holes in the short term isn’t as appealing anymore because, generally speaking, only 1 guy matters and that guy is 20 years old.

We don’t want to expend quality assets for guys that just fill holes. We have to view more consequential acquisitions as long term fits.

It is ok to sprinkle in vets like Rubio, who don’t cost much other than salary. That isn’t what I’m speaking about here……we shouldn’t actively try to be bad but we also shouldn’t cash in our best young assets for severely limited or crap shoot players.

The Cavs strategy should involve vet acquisitions that compliment Mobley or cheaply fill a roster holes. If trading Collin, Darius or a pick, it absolutely has to be for a player who is a distressed star (that can rebound) or someone we believe can be one in the very near future. It shouldn’t be for similar players who have obvious limitations.

Just out of curiosity, do you view Simmons as a distressed star it as a player who has obvious limitations?

Simmons is a really difficult one. I view limited players as guys who don’t have a truly impactful skill. So they do one thing well but not to the degree that that one thing really matters.

At one point in time, Simmons did one thing that really mattered (defended) but he has since eroded all of that value through off court issues and an unwillingness to do things on the court that would make him better or more playable (like shoot).

Simmons is an unnecessary Hail Mary to me now. It made more sense prior to seeing Mobley play because we were unsure if we had a true cornerstone guy. I’d maybe take a chance on him if he was effectively free and only a salary cost but I struggle to see how it makes sense to trade any good young assets for him. 9 times out of 10, whatever you trade for him is probably going to be too much.

But wouldn't Simmons get the most out of Mobley?

I was looking at some combos we could get back and I would be interested in a package from the Mavs built around Brunson/Green/pick. I think Garland is probably the better swap here but I love this combo.

Would he?

On paper it looks exciting (and I'm less critical of Simmons than most), but im not sure if personalities would be all that great together.

Even if you take away Simmons' immaturity on and off the court, once you add a guy like him to this squad, Jarrett Allen becomes unplayable next to Mobley and Simmons. I feel like you need to set up a LeBron like team next to Simmons. All shooters. But with Simmons, it's worse because he can't shoot worth a damn so you can play a zone against him pretty easily.

Would the Warriors entertain a Sexton/Love for Moody/Wiggins? I'm not sure Jordan Poole can be counted on to help Steph carry the Warriors without Klay. Sexton would thrive, we get 2 athletic wings. I like the idea.

I think Sexton will have a lot of trade value in the next couple of months because he looks like he could be the #3 on a contender right now.

If an injury bug hits the right team, the Cavs could end up getting a really nice offer.

I’d prefer Garland/Love for Wiggins/Kuminga

If Boston keep under-performing, should Cavs offer Garland, Okoro and Lauri for Brown ?

He looks like a prototypical wing Cavs should be after.
