Tribe Forum Moderation

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The fact that any of this even had to be articulated by a mod on this forum is sad. Grown men bickering on a message board when, in the end, every single person on here is a Cleveland sports fan. I'm a new poster but yeah, i've always liked this board because to me it's like an island separate from all the other nonsense on the internet i.e. facebook, insta. espn, etc. Let's keep it together guys . . .

In all seriousness cannot wait to go to the entire Mets series. Hitting the game tomorrow afternoon as well. It’s so great having the Tribe here for a week.

@Phil Mixtape has the right idea.

This is a place for grown men who are all on the same team to be friendly, show love and talk about catching, pitching and how when I went to NYC I drove 45mins out and back to pay $75 for @bushwick_bill to eat bacon and drink beer and he hung out with me for less than 20 minutes.

Walk in this direction!!!

Some off-topic stuff in sports threads is okay, and has always been okay at RCF. Especially if it is between games, and if there isn't much being actively discussed in the thread at the time.

But at the same time, it does suck if some posters are trying to have a legitimate discussion within a sports related thread, and some other guys want to talk about other crap that has nothing to do with the purpose of the thread. It did get out of hand here, and fast.I don't want to have to be dick and micromanage this, because that's inevitably going to make someone unhappy and lead to pissed-off RCFer's, and I'd really prefer to avoid that. At the same time...I've asked some of the long-timers here not to bully others for having a dissenting opinion that may not be as analytically sound, and in return, they should be able to have a thread that isn't cluttered with off-topic stuff.

We all have to give a bit to get along.

I'd much prefer if people would exercise their own discretion as to when they drift off topic, and not let it dominate a thread that is supposed to be there for a different reason. And I'd ask the other guys who just want to talk sports to have a little bit of tolerance if the thread is otherwise slow, and the off-topic banter is limited to just a joke or two. But I'm not going to put up with off-topic banter that is just disguised trolling. And you know who you are.

Happy to PM if anyone wants to discuss this, or if you want an open discussion, we can go to the moderation thread I opened.
I think the problem is mostly when your only posts are off topic with a “Tribe need to win this one” sprinkled at the end as if that makes the post on topic

There are definitely people who are purposely trying to make this forum worse and it’s picked up a great deal lately. There really isn’t any nice way to resolve that like gentlemen because they’re doing exactly what they intend to do, muck up a forum.

Late to this post, but this is a step in the right direction. We've been asking for this for what feels like forever, so nice to finally be listened to. Here are a few thoughts/discussion points I'd like to address/bring up:

There are moments where some posters bully others or are overly sarcastic/condescending

There are certain members who only come in here with the sole intention to antagonize the antagonizers and to get their jokes off

It's OK to be a casual baseball fan. But all too often we see exchanges like this:

  • "Kipnis sucks"
  • "Actually, he's been playing well recently. *list of recent trends*"
  • "He still sucks"

Or the below, verbatim, after Kluber was throwing 93 in a rehab start
  • "Not ready yet, but getting closer. His velocity scares me."
  • "Do folks even know what Kluber throws?
  • "Sorry, not a Kluber, mph guru. I thought he threw harder than that. You know, being our Ace for the last few years, I assumed he went harder than 93. My bad. FYI, not everyone that views the boards knows every stat and metric."
Kluber has been with the Indians for 6+ years and has been one of the best pitchers in baseball. This would be akin to saying in Cavs Talk, or rather now Around The NBA, "Sorry, didn't know LeBron wasn't a good 3pt shooter. You know, being the best player in the league for the last few years". If you throw out an uninformed take in any RCF subforum, or in quite literally anywhere on the internet, you're probably going to be promptly told you are wrong; this isn't unique to the Indians section.

When I joined RCF, "lurk more, post less" was the unofficial motto. No problem with casual or new fans posting, but if you're going to throw out opinions, at least have some backing to those opinions.

We all need to be better. Less bullying, hostility, hot takes, and trolling.

I get your point and mainly agree, but I had no idea what Kluber was throwing before he broke his arm. So when someone said he was up to 92mph, I asked for some context on that because it was pretty meaningless to me.

I have zero issue with that exchange. The poster made a flawed assumption, admitted he was wrong, and moved on. And I don't want other posters to be nervous that they're going to be taken to task if they make a similar mistake. It's a simple error that could be corrected with something as benign as "Nah, 93 mph is good for Kluber -- about where he was before the injury." There doesn't have to be a "do your homework before posting in here" subtext.

No, it's equivalent to not knowing LBJ's 3 pt.%, and that's not a prerequisite for posting in the Cavs' threads either.

Nothing wrong with pointing out when someone is wrong. There is plenty wrong with trying to establish a standard that people aren't allowed to be wrong. "Lurk more post less" may be good advice for people unfamiliar with message board etiquette in general, or if they're repeatedly dragging down good discussions with crappy takes. I don't hold it as applying -- certainly not in here, anyway -- to casual baseball fans who don't really have any desire to get deep into the stats period.

That's particularly true for a forum like this one that has much less traffic than the Cavs' forums do.

Well, I didn't include the entire quote:

"Sorry, not a Kluber, mph guru. I thought he threw harder than that. You know, being our Ace for the last few years, I assumed he went harder than 93. My bad.
FYI, not everyone that views the boards knows every stat and metric. I see why this board has few posters over here on the Indians board. Some here like to be condescending assholes"

Filled with as much sarcasm/snark as many other posts in here and the poster didn't move on, but I digress. That is on me for not including the entire exchange.

Never once said it was a prerequisite?

Let's revise this to "I didn't know LeBron was lazy as shit on defense", since that isn't an explicit box score stat. Guess we'll agree to disagree here.

Guys, knock of the stuff that really doesn't have

Disagreement is fine. But if that morphs into a self-appointed quality control police pressuring others not to post because they're not "up to standards", that will not be tolerated.

And on the other end, neither will trolling.

I think you have wildly misinterpreted me if that is your takeaway from my post. If people feel that way, respectfully, that is a direct result from this forum being largely ignored from moderation up until 2 weeks ago.

Happy to have you here though and getting this section in better shape
