Tribe Forum Moderation

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I usually use Sporttrac when it comes to salary since they usually stay pretty updated when it comes to that.
You must not use it that often if you still don't realize it's Spotrac, not SpoRtTrac :)

I jest.

It took me like a decade to realize that the reporter, Shams Charania, was the same guy who ran Shamsports, which was the contract site I used to use for NBA salaries.

Much appreciated. I love responsive government. I'll vote for you in the next moderator election.

This isn't your department but do you know why all those thingys at the top are grayed out? It would be nice to be able to put key phrases in bold or italics.
Moderator elections?

I want to thank all of you guys for all the effort you put into the Tribe forum this season. In all seriousness, I enjoyed this season much more than I had anticipated simply because of all of your posts, etc.. You guys actually helped rekindle my love of baseball. The vibe in here was all I ever wanted...a bunch of fans shooting the shit about baseball in a (mostly) friendly manner, and I learned a lot from some of you more analytically intense guys.

@Derek, I hope you come back next season.

Anyway, just as a poster and not a mod, thanks to all of you!

Guys, for the second time in a few weeks, we had another non-baseball related blowup in a Tribe thread. They pretty much all start the same -- someone makes what they think is only a "close to the line" comment about politics, someone responds by moving it further out, and then all of a sudden, someone's blood gets up and it takes off. Usually accompanied with someone who can't resist getting in their own opinion before urging everyone else to stop talking politics.
So the conversation goes from discussing spin rates and sticky in gloves, to discussing Anthony Fauci, Townhall.com, and Hermann Goering.

I appreciate everyone who stayed out of that.

I'd ask again that people stay away from that stuff. I have absolutely zero sympathy for "passion" as an excuse, and after the fact apologies for derailing a thread don't undo what happened.

Please feel free to ping me if someone sees it getting out of hand, and if I don't respond quickly enough, any mod who is online will do. You guys should know by now that literally my only agenda here is for this forum to be a good, friendly place to discuss baseball.

Goering?

Well, I suppose he has the girth to be a power hitter.

He'd be dropping bombs all over.

I wasn't sure where to put this but here seems as good a place as any. I'm dipping my toe into the water here for the first time since last year. I watch pretty much every Indians game when I'm in Ohio, and I try to attend in person a few times over the summer as well. This team has been a pleasant surprise over what I expected given all the holes on the roster.

Last season I came in here and it was a toxic waste dump with all the inter-personal attacks, vitriol, and endless pointless arguments. I left and never came back.

I've just scrolled through a couple of threads and here's my new first impression. There's some excellent insight as usual with most RCF discussions and I always appreciate that. But as it was last year, there are some posters who seem pretty toxic as well. There are people posting here who never post in the Browns or Cavs discussions, and that's fine. But I couldn't help but notice some of the toxic venom that causes me to leave, even after only scrolling through a few pages.

It's just fucking baseball. Can people just enjoy the pleasant (although at some times frustrating) pass-time and distraction of a sport without attacking one another over the most mundane disagreements over shit that means next to nothing in the grand scheme of things? I'd like to participate here, but I'm not going to waste my time if it degenerates into what it was in the past. At first glance it seems to be pretty much at the edge.

I have all but begged people to PM me if they see an issue with tone in these threads. I always respond and address the issue as best I can.

But if I don't get a PM, it's a busy forum and I can miss the problem. And to be honest, I never got anything from you. So maybe try posting, see how it goes, and let me know if you think a response is toxic

My hope is that much of the toxicity will be relegated to the game/series thread section once the forum expands.

That presents an interesting definitional issue. What is toxicity? Is it the blisteringly hot negative takes, or blistering reactions to those takes?

The way I see it, you can have one of those sky-is-falling hot takes, or respond negatively to one of those takes, and neither is toxic on its own. It crosses the line when people start attacking other poster or posters with "what is wrong with you/you must be blind" kind of retort, or when someone continues making the same point over and over, as if endless repetition is an argument. When it gets to the point where that partucular kind of back and forth is dominating a thread, it's toxic.

@Derek is right, allot of the bad posting is in the game threads. The issue is the game threads is also where most of the best discussion is located.

We need to expand the indians thread now that we have such an active area. It is in the works. We then need to teach some of them that game threads are for games, and to us the threads specific for conversation and in season transactions and in season discussions.

I beg you to stay, there are great discussions and you can ignore or report anyone that is fighting. The section has grown and its exciting, but it also comes with its own issues.

Is this an example of toxic?
