Fox 8 and Channel 3 both confirmed the TRIBE has had discussions with BRIAN GILES..

He's 35, but is a consistent .300 hitter.. Can play right-field and is a serious upgrade over CASEY FLAKE  . (That is not saying much)

But he is not a Right handed stick.. And he did turn down a 3 year 7 mill dollar deal from the Padres I believe..

Any thoughts ?

hell yes. you dont hit .300 by not hitting leftys. this guy is a stud, he produces year in and year out.

Giles would be the perfect fit on our team. Veteran leadership in bat form. Hit .300 and you'll be loved and adored. You'll be right behind Victor Martinez in the lineup. That would make our lineup rock solid from 1-6. Belliard will do well at the 7th, and Boone and Blake... well I don't really care about them I guess. 20 homers again and I'll be satisfied, Blake...

Millwood looks intent on staying in Cleveland as many aren't really offering big. He should like staying an Indian, especially if we pick up Brian Giles. I hope we make it clear to him that our #1 priority is getting a big bat to toughen up the lineup, not resigning him. But by completing that #1 priority, it solves everything that made him have a losing record yet still have the best ERA. Next year, should he stay an Indian, he'll can have the best ERA AND the best record. Go chomp on that for a while, Kevin.

this is the first i have heard that milwood is looking like he is going to stay in cleveland. that would be a plus. i just dont think we will get both of those guys.

I want to get a big right hander, but if we add another lefty oh well, more matchup problems for the other team. I think we could use a few releivers Wickman may not be back.

Heard on WTAM that Millwood is only considering offers that start at 5 yrs/12 mill per. That's 60 million I don't think Dolan will pay. I may be wrong as time will tell. As for not enough "interested" in Kevin, I don't buy that for a second. Someone is always looking for pitching (Yankees).

That's a pretty laughable contract. History of injuries, one great year, and a contract that huge? We're barely considering a 4th year in the contract, and he wants 5.... If he wants 5, he should try to get a major paycut... 5 year 35-40 mil.

I suppose saying Millwood is "intent on staying in Cleveland" was an overstatement. But it would be a great situation for him, rather than stink it up on another team. Another team with a bunch of overpaid "professionals," whereas he could have a better dugout/bullpen here in Cleveland with the young Indians....

We can pretty much kiss Millwood goodbye. Look for someone like Byrd to be the offseason signing and possibly another pitcher for the 5 spot. Ryan will likely replace Wicky, and the Giles signing is looking more and more like it could happen. I know the fans want someone like Manny back, but this just is very unlikely, not impossible though.

Heres hoping we open up the wallet a little bit more this year.

Nomar Garciaparra is among the players the Indians are considering -- Trevor Hoffman and Paul Byrd are others -- and he would make a lot of sense for Cleveland.
We are long past the days when it seemed Garciaparra was intent on getting paid as well as fellow star shortstops Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. He's played in more than 62 games in only two of the last five seasons, and Garciaparra will be 33 next summer. He's no longer an elite player, and scouts who watched him play last year doubt that he can succeed as a shortstop.

But some scouts also think he's a guy worth considering, if he were to embrace a Tony Phillips-type role, moving around from position to position. "I saw a lot of life in his bat at the end of the (2005) season," said one scout. "I think he's going to help somebody."

He got off to a terrible start last season, batting .157 in April before tearing his groin, but Garciaparra hit .338 in August and .311 in September. When healthy, he would fit in perfectly with the Indians in the middle of their lineup, perhaps batting behind Travis Hafner, lending some experienced and right-handed protection; he'd be playing for former Red Sox prospect Eric Wedge in Cleveland.

From ESPN insider.

Hmm. Garciaparra? Still sucks we missed out on Giles. That would have been exactly what we need. Dunno if Nomar is the vet leadership we need... but he's a right handed hitter, so maybe he's a better fit? Who knows. Damn.

i cant stand his pre-bat routine a couple of times a year, i wont be able to watch it a couple of hundred times. :thumbdown
