Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They are saying the Raptors for TT potentially. I think that is good fit with Marc Gasol, but that means Serge would be coming back here? I'd actually be up for that. I wonder what we would get though. That is swapping expirings. We would need something for our trouble. I don't want Powell. He could be ok, but he would take minutes away from other guys I want to play.

TT would not start ahead of OG Anunoby. While TT is a good defender, OG is a great defensive player and I expect him to be all-defense in a year or two once his reputation catches to his actual play.

TT may be a trainwreck off the court and in his personal life but he’s a real one when it comes to the game of basketball. Him physically engaging Donkey in the finals, upping his game in the playoffs, and stepping up here has really earned my respect. We aren’t gonna be relevant for a long time. He can check kids during this rebuild and has this coach’s back. His salary won’t be prohibitive because we aren’t signing FAs anyway.

extend him.

I wonder if he has any intention of remaining in Cleveland even if the Cavs were willing and able to offer him market value. This team won't be good for a while. TT has tasted a Championship. I have to believe he'll look around and find a greener pasture that doesn't involve a long rebuild.

It will come down to money. We can and will offer more money than other teams. We will give him more freedom to put shots up and stuff like that which clearly matters to him because he mentioned it specifically.

I've alternated between loving and hating TT at various stages of his career, Right now I'm loving the dude again, with his veteran leadership, walking the walk, and his response to the Athletic article bashing Beilein.
I like TT too and he’s done a lot for this franchise. I believe he would rather be elsewhere competing than going through a rebuild. I won’t say he would never re-sign here, but the Cavs would likely have to overpay him, which isn’t prudent, at this point in time.

I think they will talk extension and then ship him, once he makes it clear what his price tag is and that he would prefer to be elsewhere. The way he’s been playing, he should bring back a decent return too.

I just read the article that quotes Tristan and him supporting Beilein. I take back anything negative I said about the guy. He was very upfront about how you don't do that type of crap and spew off to media about your coach. If you haven't read the article, here it is... it's definitely worth a read and you'll gain a ton of respect for Tristan

So any information on why he was pissed and ended up getting benched the rest of the game?

In today's NBA where so many players are drastically overpaid... there's absolutely zero chance TT signs somewhere for $6 million per and I don't even think he'll sign for $9 million either..

He'll be asking for something ludicrous in the $20 million range (Rich Paul is his agent mind you)... He'll end up settling for around $12-$15 million over about 3 years with a team who's desperate enough to overpay.
I like TT but we should not overpay him. He has value and should net us a good return

Nothing concrete. I suspect he was benched for his sideline shouting. He was likely subbed because he didn't get back on defense fast enough.
I don't see it as anything more than a one-game thing.

Cavs aren't used to 1) this kind of discipline, and 2) actually having a big or two that you can sub in a game you can almost win. Henson being on the roster and playable has changed a few things

He got mad because Sexton didn't pass him the ball in the paint and took a 3 point attempt instead, then showed no interest in getting the easy rebound. Then he just stood there while the rest of the team headed back down the floor.

Beilein started yelling at him to get down the floor on defense. Delly ended up with the ball on a turnover and gave it to Thompson who was still in the same spot for an easy dunk. Thompson was just getting madder as Beilein had got on him to get moving and then after the dunk tried to get in his face and was yelling at him.

Delly again with a great play keeping him away from Beilein

Sexton is the prince selected by the coach and the owner so rest of the team just need to accept that... he can take as many shots he wants and he can pass only when he wants

The only teams with Capspace next year are bad teams. So, Tristan has to give up bird rights to get a big contract from another bad team. I bet anything he is being a good soldier to get a 10's of million's contract because he can only get the mid level from teams that are competing. So his only options to get a "good" contract are saty with his current team where he is appreciated and gets shots, move to another shitty team and lose bird rights, or sign a big contract(hopefully the cavs don't outbid themselves) which can then be moved to a contender at a different date like Kevin Love did.

That's it. Getting 14M from a contender or even a playoff team is not an option at all. He can go t the Grizz, Hawks, Knicks if they don't resign anyone they signed last year, and that is it. The one exception is Toronto, which may be what he is goes for. He would have appreciation of his hometown and be able to sign a decent sized contract. Maybe he has his own coming home thing that he will do.

I hope not.
I'm sure Beilein is trying to get him to pass.
I think it's the work ethic that gives him a little bit of a pass though with ownership/management. From what I understand Collin is the main one putting in the extra hours in the empty gym at nights.
