Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Fedor is reporting that the Cavs are insisting on a first round pick and won't trade him just to trade him. However, Thompson wants to be traded and the "people around him" consider it to be a "priority". Sounds like he really wants to get on a playoff team rather than playing 30 meaningless games and going home.

So what if it comes down to Thursday afternoon with the clock ticking and no first round pick to be had? Will the Cavs back down and take a pair of 2nds or something other than a first rounder? Any first round pick we get for Thompson will almost certainly be near the end of the round. But Cedi Osman was the 31st pick. You can get a useful player there. You can't get anything worthwile at the end of the second round in four years out of five (just guessing on that), so I can see the Cavs holding out for that first rounder.

Fedor says there are at least three teams that can use him so I suppose there's a chance somebody caves. Hey, maybe if we throw in Garland and Sexton?

Fedor also had this deal with Boston:

"Thompson’s $18 million works in a hypothetical swap for Kanter, Theis, Romeo Langford and Vincent Poirier. The Cavs also have two free rosters spots, so this move would just require them to free up one more. It’s doable given the expiring contracts of John Henson, Brandon Knight and Matthew Dellavedova. Boston also has three first-round picks in 2020 to dangle, putting it in a great spot to improve at the deadline."

This is assuming the Celtics see TT as an upgrade over Kanter and Theis.

JHard no from the Celtics side.

Best case scenario is an expiring contract + FRP. Anything beyond that is a pipe dream.

Boston has had a war chest of assets since the Brooklyn trade and all they have to show for it is a couple losses in the Eastern Conference Finals. Keep those assets Ainge!

Any other GM would be sitting on multiple titles with the assets they built up but Ainge loves those late lotto picks. Even Brown and Tatum's parents don't believe in them the way Danny believes in them lol.

We aren't going to land a prospect like Langford for TT. That's not happening.

This is probably true but where he was drafted doesn't mean much now and it's more about how the Celtics feel about him. Carson Edwards has gotten alot more minutes than Langford at this point. Maybe they give him up instead of a draft pick because how much work he needs and how he doesn't really fit a need for their team. Draft picks give them more flexibility even if they are lesser value than the position Langford was drafted.

With how the NBA is trending and how the Celtics are constructed Langford doesn't really have a spot unless they hit a bunch of injuries. They have 3 wings that can play SG and Marcus Smart who can guard 1-3 at a high level. Like any young prospect, Langford will need a steady amount of minutes to develop. If he doesn't get those minutes, he is one year away from being a throw in player. Having him sit on the bench doesn't help him retain his value.

Is TT and upgrade over Kanter and Theis? I am not so sure.

I suspect that for a playoff run and in his contract year, TT would go into whatever beast mode he may still possess. Long term....probably not. But he might be a smart pickup for a playoff run.

No doubt he would be He does the dirty work. Works well in the pnr Doesnt need the ball. Can defend. Not s locker room cancer. Tons of playoff experience

Rockets apparently trading for an EC center who has yet to be named. Do they have literally anything of value?

Weird he didn't go. They must have not had any time to unload him. Once they got Drummond, he is not very useful. Maybe they really will buy him out.
