Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cavs want him back — at the right price. But according to sources, early discussions have centered on a number lower than Thompson would want. That may be his reality this offseason. Money or contender? It’s tough to see a scenario where Thompson gets both because Miami is the lone playoff team with cap space and over-the-cap organizations are expected to be judicious with their mid-level exceptions. So, what’s the right price?

understand that because the cavs have bird rights they can offer a little higher on mid level of 9.2 m

I think you've got to make Double T an offer which is respectable. Don't lock him into nonsense but offer something fair to him so he can move away in another season if he desires. This was a weird off-season for these guys and he'd likely have other options in normal years.

He was great for the young guys and you can tell he gives a crap about the team. I love the guy and his work ethic. But it DOES come down to what he thinks he's worth. Again, like Love, he's a vet who makes you win more games if you are playing the right kind of basketball. He also is one guy you can rely to try and play some damn defense.

You can't sign him to a contract that is untradeable. That's what he wants. NOBODY offered much of anything for him because they thought he would be bought out and sign for the minimum. He isn't getting much more than the min from anybody. I'd love to know what the cavs have offered, but I would bet it is around mid level or even lower.

Like I said in the other thread, I'd prefer John Henson to TT.

And as you also said in the other thread, John has had some awful luck staying healthy. I have liked Henson in terms of being a quality big coming off the bench...but it just seems he's unable to remain on the floor these days.

I'd pass on Henson but if Tristan leaves, I might consider seeing what his asking price would be.

One thing people are discounting and what no other front office realizes is that TT is not a starting center. A 20 min guy off the bench, he looks better than Drummond. Starting, it seems like we need a new guy.

TT can still be a 6th man big and destroy opposing benches, but his motor and wearing guys out isn't as effective at 32 min a game. He's be very smart to take a one year deal in 7M range or something to come off the bench. I think if he did that for several months, he would be very easy to move. Look at the games he played after Drummond arrived coming off the bench. He finished most of those games and won them.
