I know he's a restricted free agent, and the possibility of this trade happening is next to none, so this is more of a devil's advocate possibility.

Would you do a dual S+T for Daniel Gibson for Carl Landry straight up? Granted both teams are losing integral parts to their teams, Houston maybe moreso than the Cavs because of their bigman situation, but I think this trade makes sense for both squads. For the Cavs, you get a young big man that can score and play with some energy, and he makes AV that much more expendable. For Houston, they would get a nice backup PG option to shore up the backcourt in Boobie who has the local ties and is cold-blooded from three. He could help spread the floor for Yao and TMac.

I think both Boobie and Landry should see about similar numbers in their contracts, as they are both young players that have proved something, but not a lot in the NBA. I know Houston is pretty high on Landry, but this trade is really like a swap of sixth men. Maybe Cleveland throws in the #19 pick, or they swap picks? Again, the likelihood of this trade happening is next to zero because both are restricted free agents, but I feel like this would be a swap that could be beneficial for both squads. Thoughts?

carl landry, i honestly dont even know what team he is on. He just doesnt sound good enough!

Think of shorter less athletic Antawn Jamison without the ability to hit the 18 footer. Average Defender because of his height. Good post moves and wide frame.

He can hit the 18 footer, I am a purdue alumni, and know his game very well. Over achieving right now imo, but he gives you effort.

Wasn't his PER last year like top 15 in the entire NBA?

I know that he had unreal PER and +/- numbers for the Rockets. Here's an article from Wages of wins that breaks down who he is.

I suggested this trade b/c both he and Gibson seem like fringe role players that are never going to be great, but will be good at what they do. Landry is an efficient player (what he does well) that can score and rebound, and give you a better reason to shop AV. My only gripes with Landry are that it seemed like he disappeared in the playoffs (where Boobie has proven himself) and that he's undersized at the power forward spot (a similar knock on Boobie at the guard spot). I think I would be willing to give up Gibson, but I think it would also have to be a situation where there's another trade lined up (like the Cavs' blockbuster) that addresses the Cavs' guard issues (i.e. bring in Redd, BD, AI, Maggette etc.)

He was great at purdue. Effort guy, but he has an injury history, and if i remember correctly he played 6 years at purde getting an additional medical red shirt. He is a poor man's carlos boozer is how I would describe him.

Rockets aren't going to let him go in any fashion...They're high on him..

You might know his game very well but this isn't college. He's shot under 16% from 12 foot out in the month of April (including playoffs). He shot 51% total for the month of April (including playoffs). He clearly works off the weakside now getting garbage points off of layups and dunks. Teams layoff of him and beg him to shoot the jumper. At leasts that was April's scouting report.

I've asked for the rest of his comprehensive stats to be sent to me so I have more then just April's to go by.

when he gets in the confort zone in the pros, he will have joe smith type range. He is very limmited athleticly, has had some major knee problems, and is undersized for his position. But the jumper will start falling, and the effort will always be there from him.

As much as I like the player than Landry is, he seems extremely limited into what type of player he can become... With previous injuries, not much of an offensive game and limited physically, he doesn't sound too tempting... Not to mention what you see is what you're going to get, since he will turn 25 before the season, in only his 2nd year in the NBA...

Meanwhile, Gibson will be in his 3rd year next year and will be only 23 years old... His potential is a lot higher and as of now, what he provides us is much more valuable than what Landry could provide us...

And doesn't his game seem redundant with Varejao here? Not only that but we have 4 highly paid bigs that all are going to want 20+ minutes of playing time...

I also fear that next year team's will figure him out the way they figured Varejao out this year... With such a limited game, like Varejao, it might hurt him and he might be unable to adapt...

Plus, the Rockets need as many skilled bigs as they can... They also already have Bobby Jackson and Rafer Alston, who performed well during the playoffs...
