Re: Cavaliers @ Bucks

LeBron was great...

However, Z and Drew were spectacular...

Re: Cavaliers @ Bucks

Redd and Bogut were tearing us up early so I though they must enjoy the piss. However by the end of the game I believe they were too drunk to compete due to them sinking too much piss.

Re: Cavaliers @ Bucks

Nice to see the Cavs get a win because of their defensive effort. That has been rare in recent seasons.

LeBron played very well and put up big numbers but I'm not sure this was one of his best games. He took some real bad shots and his effort on D ran hot and cold. I'm not ripping on him though because the Cavs don't win without him tonight.

Z got off to a rough start but bounced back with a nice game. His presence altered and changed a lot of shots tonight.
Gooden was huge in the 1st half but sat for some reason in the 2nd.

Mike Wilks actually was a big factor in the win. His D on Mo Williams changed the game.

Damon Jones really stepped up in his 1st start---kidding. He can't have games like this with Hughes out. Cavs also are going to have to get more than 10 total points from all their G's.

Nice to see Jiri Welsch hasn't lost the touch he showed with the Cavs last year.

Nice road win against a good team especially on a night when the offense wasn't always running smoothly.

Re: Cavaliers @ Bucks

Boy I miss Jiri Welsch...heh heh.

We won this with defense and a big step up from Lebron and Z in the 4th (nice taken charge Z). Wilks and Snow weren't great offensively, but they penetrated, which at least forced the Bucks to either foul or collapse in (even if Snow got stuck a few times), and both played good D. When Amon's jumper ain't failling, he's worthless. (Note to DJ: Notice how Wilks and Snow go over the pick.) Marshall picked his spots to be huge and Drew did his usual 70/30 focus. (Note to Drew: when on a fast break, give the ball to Lebron, who was running next to you. Do not pass to Ira Newble.) Newble looked terrible on offense but played solid D. I'd criticize him for that technical but I don't even know what the heck it was for.

This is the first time I've gotten to watch the vaunted Bucks offense. I say that because, beyond good rebounding and Bobby Simmons playing some tough man-on-man, the Bucks have no defense. Bogut must have gotten half of his points from garbage put-backs (which is no small thing, don't get me wrong). When Redd's shot isn't falling, he's also pretty worthless except at the line. I know it's not the SG's responsibility necessarily, but he had one assist. Usually ran an isolation for himself so he could chuck up another 3 with a hand in his face. Mo Williams looked terrifying at times on the offensive side, but lost at others. Pretty bad on D. At least he was trying to create some shots for other people. Their bench scored 0 points. Trash. They don't quit, though, and we got a little sloppy at the end. Shouldn't have been as close as it was.

Seems like we got the hang of this defense thing at just the right time with Larry out. It'll take solid team D to keep a good winning record while he's gone. In some ways, I'm more impressed by this game than the Detroit win because a) it was on the road in b) a place we hadn't won at in 7 games when c) we JUST found out that Hughes was going to be out, and for a long time. Could have been demoralizing, an excuse to lose, but they stepped up.

Re: Cavaliers @ Bucks

Well back home kiddies. We have Houston tomorrow.

Good road win against a possible playoff contender. The defensive intensity was pretty good and I hope they will continue to show such effort.

James’ Triple-Double Rallies Cavs Past Bucks

MILWAUKEE, Jan. 4 (Ticker) -- LeBron James uncovered the secret to winning at the Bradley Center. It was a triple-double, rather than a 50-point game.

James had 32 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists and sparked a huge fourth-quarter burst as the Cleveland Cavaliers finally solved the road riddle of the Milwaukee Bucks with a 91-84 victory, their eighth win in nine games.

Drew Gooden scored 18 points and Donyell Marshall added 17 off the bench for the Cavaliers, which ended a seven-game slide here dating to March 8, 2002, when James was a junior in high school.

"It shows we're growing as a team," James said. "I got in a comfort level and I took over the game and my guys, they were with me. They know any time I get going, they let me go and they pick up the slack. I was trying to let the game come to me, let my teammates carry me into the fourth quarter and I knew it would loosen up. I was patient. I didn't force any shots and I was able to make a run at it."

In Cleveland's last visit December 10, James exploded for a season-high 52 points. But it wasn't enough as the Cavaliers absorbed a 111-106 loss to the Bucks, who had a much more balanced attack.

On Wednesday, the Cavaliers trailed for most of the first three quarters but closed to 67-62 entering the final period on a 3-pointer by Damon Jones that started a 19-0 run that was dominated by James.

The 21-year-old superstar swingman made two free throws and - after a basket by Zydrunas Ilgauskas - made a steal and warded off Maurice Williams with one arm while flipping in a layup. His ensuing free throw gave Cleveland the lead for good at 69-67.

"I got the steal and I saw Mo Will (Williams) was going to try to foul me before I got the shot up," James said. "I did a great job of getting the ball up on the rim and it went in for me. It helps to be strong on plays like that."

James drained a pair of 3-pointers around a 3-pointer by Marshall, pushing the lead to 78-67 with 7:26 to play. Just over three minutes later, he held off a defender with one arm, grabbed the rebound with the other and put in a layup for an 83-71 bulge.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee could not make a shot. The Bucks missed their first nine attempts of the fourth quarter and had just one basket in the first 11 minutes before a late surge allowed them to match James with 17 points in the period.

It was the second triple-double of the season and sixth career for James, who made just 12-of-29 shots but also had five steals.

"I can't say he amazes me because he does what he does every night," Cleveland coach Mike Brown said. "He got a triple-double tonight, which was awesome. It's easy to take him for granted when he does that because it's something that seems to come naturally."

"Toronto did the same thing," James said. "They changed their defense on me and I had a triple-double on them. It's like deja vu."

Ilgauskas had 14 points and nine boards for the Cavs (19-10), who held a 19-0 edge in bench points and won despite the absence of second-leading scorer Larry Hughes, who is expected to miss eight weeks due to a broken finger that requires surgery. It was the first time since November 27, 1970 that Milwaukee's bench was scoreless.

"It's unusual," Milwaukee coach Terry Stotts said. "It doesn't happen very often that I can remember. Our bench has been very good and very productive for us. We need to get the bench in and we have all year and this is a little bit of an anomaly."

Marshall was happy to fill in with Hughes out.

"I just tried to come in and help the team," Marshall said. "Tonight we started off slow so I just tried to come in there and pick things up."

Michael Redd scored 28 points and Bobby Simmons added 18 for the Bucks (17-12), who could have caught the Cavs for second place in the rugged Central Division but had a two-game winning streak snapped.

"Huge loss, huge loss," Redd said. "It's an advantage to at least share the tiebreaker with them. It hurt us tonight, so we've got to go to Cleveland and try and win there (Saturday)."

Game Quotes: Cavaliers at Bucks - January 4, 2006

Cavaliers Head Coach Mike Brown
(On the play of LeBron James…)
“ LeBron continues to amaze me. He got a triple-double tonight which was awesome. He’s one guy who can get those often. It’s easy to take him for granted when he does because it just seems so natural for him. ”
(On the Cavs defense on Michael Redd…)
“ Michael Redd is an all-star. The only thing that you can hope for with Michael Redd is to contain him a little bit. You are not going to stop him. Michael Redd is a tough cover for anybody. ”

(On Mike Wilks play for the Cavs…)
“ First of all he’s tough. Second of all he’s real steady with the basketball. He’s been in the league for a few years now. He played in a great program last year in San Antonio. His size isn’t a factor because he’s tough, strong, quick and he likes to defend.”

Donyell Marshall
(On playing against the Bucks big frontline…)
“ I think they have a good frontcourt. The last time we played here they got us a little bit, especially with offensive rebounds. We wanted to make sure that we did a better job of boxing out this time. ”

(On the lift he provided off the bench…)
“ I just tried to come in and help the team. Tonight we started off slow so I just tried to come in there and pick things up. ”

Damon Jones
(On being in the starting lineup…)
“ It felt good just to be on the floor. I’m no stranger to being a starter. It was an adjustment early and I had to get through some of the bad times because of my shooting. ”

(On the play of the Bucks this season…)
“The Bucks have a good basketball team. The key to their team all year long has been depth. They have a couple of guys out and because of that they are hurting but they are a good basketball team.”

Head Coach Terry Stotts
(On an overall “flat” night…)
“I thought we came out with good energy and got off to a nice lead, but then after that I think the rest of the game [was flat]. I was disappointed in both halves. We built a lead in both halves and let it get away from us. We’re not in that situation very much. It’s disappointing to lose to them here regardless of when we play them next. It’s a game that we needed and felt that we should have had.”

(On an uncharacteristic fourth quarter…)
“It was a long [scoreless] stretch. For the most part, defensively, we competed at the end. I thought they were a little quicker with all the rebounds.”

(On getting no contribution from the bench…)
“It’s unusual. It doesn’t happen very often that I can remember. Our bench has been very good and very productive for us. We need to get the bench in and we have all year and this a little bit of an anomaly. It’s how the game went tonight.”

Bobby Simmons
(On an uncharacteristic fourth quarter…)
“At the end of the fourth, we didn’t come back like we usually do. We had great energy. It’s just a matter of a few plays that could possibly change the game, and tonight it did. I think that it’s one of those nights that we just didn’t convert on plays that we usually make at the end of a game and throughout that process I think we had a few more shots fall for us. We had an opportunity to win at the end.”

(On LeBron James’ fourth quarter outburst…)
“We did a good job [defensively]. I wouldn’t say we did a great job. Unfortunately they won the game tonight, but as far as the team effort I think we did a good job as a team collectively to contain him [James] with the ball in his hand.”

(On getting no contribution from the bench…)
“It’s always a team effort. I’m quite sure that the guys wanted to contribute a little bit more and make a few more plays but they just didn’t do it tonight. We just have to go back to the drawing board and just play a little bit better the next game.”

Michael Redd
(On LeBron James early struggles and fourth quarter performance…)
“He’s a good player. He’s going to keep playing, keep shooting and his team will keep going for him so he played a great second half.”

(On losing to a potential playoff rival…)
“Huge loss, huge loss. It’s an advantage to at least share the tie-breaker with them. It hurts us tonight, so we’ve got to go to Cleveland and try and win there.”

(On the fourth quarter…)
“We just missed shots, started off flat for the first five or six minutes of the fourth quarter. You can’t do that. You’ve got to stay on these guys - they’re a sleeping giant. Against LeBron [James] you’ve got to bury him, and we didn’t bury him.”

I should get credit for Mr. Pisser on Andrew Bogus. It was my idea to have Bogus getting pissed on remember?! hehe.

Re: Cavaliers @ Bucks

All credit goes to Troy Wingate for this one...

Bogut killed us last time...

Re: Cavaliers @ Bucks

obviously the bucks miss ford more than we miss hughes.

and damon jones misses more than anyone.

they are so much easier to defend when they are playing without a point guard. williams was trying but he is really more of a shooting guard player in that he looks to shoot every time he gets the ball. wilks was great shutting him down in the second half.

we will continue to win as long as we have 3d-james. he is the best. and now that we have humiliated every team in the division, the country can see our dominance. yahoo!

two more road wins and we are over .500 and home and away.
