Cavaliers' Notes
* Look to continue dominant trend at the Q this year, the Cavs are 4-0 with an average margin of victory in the high teens. We are also 3-0 in the conference. Additionally, we a carrying a 5 game winning streak into this game. Finally, we get to showcase this dominance to a national audience on ESPN.

* Cleveland, the NBA's leading free-throw team, went 23-of-27 from the line Tuesday against Washington. They're shooting 82.2 after finishing 20th overall with a 75.2 percentage last season.

Magic notes
* Dwight Howard (#1 selection last year) is coming off of a solid night on Tuesday against the Bobcats, scoring 21 and pulling down 20 rebounds in Orlando's 85-77 victory, his 5th consecutive double-double. This is his 4th career 20+ rebound game. Drew will have his hands full with this young, emerging NBA star.

* The Magic carry a 2 game winning streak into Friday. Steve Francis had a line of 13-6-5 Tuesday against Charlotte. He can cause problems for our backcourt - defending him well is the key to beating the Magic.

* DeShawn Stevenson continues to impress, and will develop into a solid NBA player. There were rumors at one time last year of the Cavaliers acquiring him via trade. He tends to pick up the slack if Francis is guarded well or has an off game. The injury to Grant Hill has allowed him to flourish.

ChicagoCavFan's Keys to the Game

* Both teams will be on 2 days rest. They should both come out with a high level of energy, with the game being in the spotlight on ESPN. Will probably be an up and down game....whomever settles in first should coast to a victory.

* Stopping Dwight Howard - Drew has a tough assignment. Limit the foul trouble and play tough, help defense, and we should be alright.

* Orlando is really a 2 man team - Howard and Francis are the batteries that make them go. Shut them down, and victory should be achieved.

On a final note:

Cleveland beat Orlando 108-100 in overtime on November 13th, in Orlando. Donyell Marshall tied the game with 18.1 seconds left with a 3 pointer, sending it to OT. We had led by 17 points in regulation, letting the Magic storm back in the 4th quarter. Hughes finished the game with 22 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals, his best as a Cavalier. Francis led the Magic with 22 points and 7 assists.

This will not be duplicated on our home floor. I expect us to get out to a lead in a high scoring first half. We have also played enough together that we know how to put a weaker team away, and not squander a large lead - too many weapons to let that happen in the Q.

Prediction: Cavaliers win, 108 - 92

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

The Cavalier's through sheer options should wear down the Magic. Orlando are limited in players that can step up, so if we contain players like Francis and Howard the Cavaliers should have a comfortable night.

Keeping Howard off the boards to me is key over trying to shut down his individual offense. Gooden has to be switched on to limit the opportunities Dwight brings to the Magic.

Do not underestimate Stevenson. Too much focus on Francis will allow opportunies for DeShawn in which he is becoming very comfortable of taking advantage of.

We did a reasonable job on Francis last time round, and I expect Snow and Hughes to maintain that similar pressure. Forcing him to beat us from the outside will really hurt the Magic.

Look again for the Magic to play Garrity for big minutes at the 4, with Howard stepping up to center. Garrity is a touch matchup on the perimeter, so Drew and Donyell really need to step out. In saying this, we should be able to outmuscle Garrity on offense. He is there for shooting alone, and will struggle to contain us.

Turkoglu is an erratic shooter, who struggled with shot last time round. If we apply pressure he wont pass up a shot, but take quite a number of illadvised jumpers. James played an ordinary offensive game against the Magic last effort, and should look at his Washington game as to how he should approach Orlando.

Orlando with Battie, Howard and Cato in the paint are a solid defensive rotation. Ilgauskas probably needs to step away from the paint to allow either some decent jumpers and or space for Hughes and James.

Cavs should take this, and on form could be a 20+ win.

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

we should thump em!!!

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

i wouldnt be suprised to see this be a 30 + point win for the cavs. we were beating them by 17 at their place before we got complacent.

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

The Magic will play hard. They individually aren't looking that great, but I think they definately play better as a team. I am not expecting a 30 point blowout or anything like that, I think this will be a pretty close one at the Q. Howard showed last time that his athleticism can cause problems, I'd like to see Drew instead of Ilgauskaus on him. Keeping Francis outside and limiting the wide open looks for guys like Turkoglu and Garrity will be keys to stopping the Magic defensively. On offense, I'd like to see lots of Lebron beating up whoever they have trying to guard him, drawing the double, then having the offense flow from there.

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

In reality, theory, any realm, the Cavs should take this one, easily. We are far more talented and far more together, as evidenced by our 5 game win streak. And we are undefeated at home, which is where this game will take place. A sold out game at that.

But mistakes can happen, surprises can happen, and cockiness has the best to do with it.

Key #1: Stop Dwight Howard: He will be our #1 threat
Key #2: Stop Steve Francis: Did it once, can do it again
Key #3: Stop role players. Turkoglu, Stevenson, Nelson are the main threats

So... what does this mean? D-E-F-E-N-S-E

It doesn't matter how we are organized on offense. We're at home, and we will be able to rain it down. The key is defense, preventing runs, preventing the guys from throwing down a 30+ point night, or 3 or more getting 20+ points.

I predict a win. It's a must win, no-brainer, and will be a kill to our confidence if we lose. Continue the train and the steam roll, Cavaliers.

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

It really does all depend on how the Cavs walk into the arena Friday night (not referring to Gooden's superstition, btw). If they come in taking the Magic for granted, looking ahead to the next game, wondering where to eat after the game, they could get surprised. Orlando has two, maybe three players who can go off. If we lock down on D like we did in the big O, then it's D-O-N-E. (I couldn't resist. I should have. But didn't.)

Coach and the vets on this team are too smart too get cocky. Z, Larry, Donyell, DJones, and the Bron will come out focused. We're developing a 'just take care of business' attitude, modeled after the Spurs and Pistons, esp. at home. I'm predicting a +10 pt win. Maybe not the blowouts we've seen, but then again, I thought that before the Griz and Wiz games, too.

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

We beat them on their turf now we will beat them on ours...We have come out strong every game we've played at home and are undefeated at the Q. I think the energy of the crowd plus LeBron and Larry will be too much for the Magic to handle. LeBron goes for 28 Larry 21. The Cavaliers win in a blow out 104-81

i dunno. Don't take stopping him for granted. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and could really keep us off balance by getting going, as we have to keep our eye on howard too. BUT, James is going to go nutz this game. U know, when he gets that look in his face and that strutt? Game over... I don't think we will blow them out, but a closer win would be better for us, since it will build mental toughness. We can't assume we blast everyone out of the Q, and this could be the very first close one if we can't keep our turnovers down.

oh btw Lyxo, the picture of great lakes brewing company is making me salivate on my computer. I can't wait to come home for TG. my gf got me tix for the twolves game, but just as important: a cold six of elliot ness. haha.

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

This wil lbe an interesting game..They get to see us for a 2nd time.. These are the games where you can see how both teams adjust to the previous game.

I think the attention to detail will be placed upon the glass, as well as it shold be... Keep Howard's ass off of it please.

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

tcb, should be an easy victory unless howard goes off. the one i'm worried about is the second of the back to back. kinda a set up game going to philly the next night. prediction, philly is the end of our winning streak.

Re: Orlando at Cleveland

It would be good to keep Gooden on Howard, but that is difficult when Orlando go small with Garrity. Hopefully when Garrity is out therewe matcup with Marshall. Drew cannot defend perimeter bigs.
