Cavalier Notes

* The Cavalier's return home after a three game road trip with just the one win vs the Raptors.
* Cleveland are playing just their second home game, in which they blew out the Hornets in game 1.
* Larry Hughes is still struggling with a finger injury. "I'm trying to get comfortable and get my hand back to 100 percent," Hughes said.
* The Cavs will have a distinct scoring advantage in the paint with Evans and Petro only there for defense and rebounding.
* Whilst Lewis will have trouble stopping James, LeBron will also struggle in containing the multi talented long forward.
* Hughes's defense will be tested by the purest shot in the game with Ray Allen in town.
* Eric Snow will have his word cut out trying to prevent Ridnour's penetration. Ridnour had a career game on McInnis last time they met.

Sonics Notes

* Seattle are (1-1) heading into Tuesday night's clash with the Grizzlies in Memphis are splitting their opening two games at home.
* Cleveland are the Sonics second stop of a 6 game road trip.
* Need to prevent Hughes and James from getting into the paint. This pair is more comfortable penetrating rather then shooting jumpers.
* Force Cleveland to lob pass to Ilgauskas. Thus far the Cavaliers have struggled to get quality ball to their key inside man.
* Work hard on the defensive glass to prevent Ilgauskas, Marshall and Gooden from getting their team second looks.
* Utilise Ronald Murray to attack Damon Jones in the second unit.
* Rotate Petro, Potapenko and Fortson often at center to inhibit Ilgauskas from geting comfortable.
* Swing the ball on the perimeter after penetration to find good looks against a struggling Cleveland defense.

Overview : Cleveland need to stamp home their authority at the Q against a team on the 2nd game of a back to back. The Cavaliers have struggled stopping teams from the perimeter thus far, and the Sonics will make us pay if we allow open looks. Snow plays a big role defensively in trying to stop the initial penetration to the paint by Ridnour, to stop him finding quality off the ball movers in Lewis and Allen. On offense the Cavalier's need to get the ball inside. Ilgauskas and Gooden have mismatches which they can take advantage of, whilst LeBron also could over power the more finesse styled Lewis. Marshall will come up against a similar perimeter threat in Radmanovic, and will need to be careful not to sag of him too far. Seattle are dangerous on the offensive glass in particular Evans and Fortson.

Looking at this game, I believe the Cavs can be effective enough defensively at the perimeter to frustrate the Sonics. On offense Cleveland will have too many weapons for the Sonics to consistantly repel. With the Sonics energy levels sapped from the Memphis game the previous night, Cleveland will likely cause Seattle headaches with the pace of the game.

Prediction : Cavs by 9

We should be able to shut these guys down Ray Allen always seems to light us up let's hope Larry can do a good job on him. LeBron will cause problems for Rashard with his speed. Gooden has a very good rebounder/defender opposite him and if Z doesn't destroy rookie Johan Petro I will be amazed. Prediction 108-94 Cavaliers

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

Look for Petro to only play around 15 minutes. Seatle really do share time at center between Fortson, Petro and Potapenko.

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

I would like to see "Z" establish himself in this one... I don't imagine Petro, Fortson or "V" can stop him defensively...

I would also like to see us gurad the perimeter... There is absolutely ZERO reason to double any of their bigs, or to collapse in on Ridnour... I would prefer for Ridnour to beat us with drives to the lane as opposed to closing in on him and allowing Allen and/or Lewis to beat us.....

If you know a team is going to attack you on the perimeter, you would think the defense on the Sonics would be fairly easy to play... I hope they can stop it...

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

Agreed, theres no reason to draw guys off the perimeter down low for this one, and the Sonics have quite a few guys that can absolutely light it up from outside. One key is going to be controlling the boards to limit those second chance shots off the long rebounds. I'm hoping Lewis doesn't have a career night and Brown emphasizes perimeter pressure for this one

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

as long as hughes gives allen a tough time throughout the game, thus elimenating early fouls, the sonics should be a easy win.

they lack size.

karma brought a good point about snow stopping luke's penetration, but snow is a quality defender. also we have to slow down allen, and their we have hughes. in other words were their most talented offensive players exists, our best defenders are present.

this is at the Q as well, the sonics are probably are scared to play their because of the dreaded 6th man.

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

With it being LeBron bobblehead and him having a history of playing extremely well on his night, I wouldnt be surprised to see LeBron have another game where he blows up especially since Rashard isnt exactly known for his defense. Should be a fun one, and yours truly will be there cheering them on. 104-97 Cavs.

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

Stop the perimeter, we stop the Sonics. We did it against the Raptors. It'll be harder to stop Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis. Look for Vlad Rad to get bigger minutes.

But really. They have nobody in the inside to work it, at all. Reggie Evans is a good rebounder, nothing more. But watch out for Nick Collison. The former forward from Kansas is a great defender and can score if asked to. He'll turn some heads this game.

Ridnour will be our #1 problem here. Will Eric be able to keep up with him? We'll see.

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

Seattle are just getting smashed by Memphis. Down 20 early in the 4th with only 54 points to their tally.

This either :

1. Pumps them up to hit back against us tomorrow

or

2. Dents their confidense and come into the game hesitant.

I'll go with #2 Karma.....

Back 2 Back nights for them, and hopefully a hyped crowd will give us the edge we need to win....

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

a 3pt escape for the cavs 101-98, am wary abt the sonics, their starters were benched during garbage time so they're not so spent from the previous game :king:

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

formula for victory: give the ball to Z. If that doesn't work, then repost. Then one more repost, then go from there. The craziest thing about this season on offense is that we haven't ran our offense thru Z as much as we should. Especially if we are going to win later on in the season and playoffs... the sonics have talent, though, but i think they might have overachieved last year. Cavs by 8.

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

beginning of a 7 out of 10 at home. we'll have a little bit of a chance to sort out some of the defensive lapses and look at what we have done well on offense. hopefully we are not the same team that was turned in circles (sa game) and let every three shooter open. we can't play this sagging help defense and leave shooters open, ecspecially against the sonics.

one key is going to be our height vs. their bulk. we'll see if tall and skinny beats short and meaty. DON'T LEAVE THE SHOOTERS!!!!!

Re: Sonics @ Cavaliers

we'll go 7-3 or bettor in the next ten games. that'll put us at 9-5 for the year and in second place in the central division which is about where we should be.

allen'll not do a thing against our crushing defense. hughes can shut him down like a cheap suit. Lebron needs to watch lewis because that man can sing from the outside so he shoots a ton from there shooting forty percent from three point range last season.

the sonics'll be travel weary and ripe for the picking after their game in elvisland.
