Way too early 2018 53-man roster projection

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Biggest needs in order (I’m going to assume Corbet fills the need at LT):

DT
FS
SS
O-Line depth
D-Line depth

I can’t for the life of me think we have a long term solution at Safety until one of the them prove me otherwise.

Quite honestly our offense looks fucking good on paper.

total agreement on this. I think we have 2 safeties that can perform just need to do it.

Also:

This defense looks like the type that Gregg Williams usually likes to run. Good edge rushers, athletic linebackers and press corners.

That Ward pick is going to change the defense because there doesn't need to be that dumbass angel defense anymore.

I expect a ton of press man and waves of pressure.

In terms of yards per cover attempt - which is the best way to assess a press corner - EJ Gaines ranked as the 11th best in the NFL last season.

I think our defense is going to surprise people. We should be great against the pass.

I think there’s absolutely no more excuses. We have the defensive personnel to be very, very good on this side of the ball. That’s not even a homer take; we’ve just completely revamped our secondary.

Ward, Gaines, Carrie could be a fantastic corner 3-deep. Ward and Gaines on the outside who are very comfortable in press man. Carrie at the nickel. Boddy-Calhoun/Mitchell/Wilson as depth.

Randall was becoming a good corner, let alone moving him back to his natural free safety position. We may see a corner like Boddy-Calhoun take snaps here at camp as depth and battle Nacua.

Peppers/Kindred at strong safety. This is the year you must see first round traits out of Peppers.

Collins/Kirko/Schobert. Two of those now have Pro Bowls and Kirko was a snub in 2016. Avery/Alexander as depth.

Garrett/Ogbah. Nassib/Smith/Thomas as edge depth—with Thomas having some flexibility to shift inside in sub-packages. Ogunjobi/Brantley/Coley/Meder on the inside.

The pieces are there.

Then again, Gregg Williams is still a massive self-important cock face.

Nacua being waved already is very surprising to me. Possibly a signing coming?! Tre Boston is still available.

Or Boddy-Calhoun/Howard Wilson being looked at as a free safety.

Cutting kai sucks. Especially for a scrub camp body qb.

Eliot Wolf on CBD- Kindred obv the 3rd safety. Staff feels BBC can play FS, and stay tuned for other additions.

2. He’s now arguably the 4th or 5th best cornerback on the roster. Definitely behind Ward, Carrie and Gaines. Stick him in the next tier with Mitchell and Boddy-Calhoun.
If one considers nickelback/3rd corner as a "starter", then the Browns will have 4 out of 5 new starters in the secondary. That seems insane. Not saying it wasn't warranted, but that just seems like a lot.

Not a perfect analogy, but imagine if Bitonio returned, but every other OLineman was a new starter.

I definitely consider nickel corner a starter. For most teams, their No. 3 CB plays 750-1000 snaps.

2017
LCB: McCourty
SS: Kindred
FS: Peppers
SCB: Boddy-Calhoun
RCB: Taylor

2018
LCB: Ward
SS: Peppers
FS: Randall
SCB: Carrie
RCB: Gaines

Guessing Carrie plays RCB over Gaines when the Browns only use two corners, but moves to slot corner when they use three.

2018 looks significantly better on paper.

Well I guess we were in sort of that situation last year. Coleman, Tretter, and Zietler were new starters.
