In a way I’ve always felt bad for Orlando Magic fans. Such promise in the mid 90’s and so fun to watch with Penny and Shaq. Then Shaq leaves them for LA..Not only did they see him win 3 titles in LA but he was instrumental in leading the other Florida team to their 1st ever title... Then he wanted to own the Magic in retirement..
4 years later they hit a homerun with T-Mac but lost out on Duncan (way to go, Doc) and Grant Hill’s ankles just never allowed for him to be great again.
Then Dwight Howard came along and that cocky ass team. Made the finals once and never been heard from again... But due to that cocky ass team I’ve never liked that franchise and hope they relocate to Seattle....
Anywhoooo it brings me to Minnesota.. Now the Wolves I can relate to..Terrible until KG and then they draft Marbury.. Couple years in and Marbury wants his own team (Kyrie-esque) — tho he flopped in Jersey/PHX and NY their main guy, (KG) was leading them to heights they never seen..Winning an MVP, making the franchise a perennial playoff team, getting to the WCF.. Yet another team (Spurs) were just better in that era...
KG is now off to Boston and Minny fans watch him win a title there... Watch him dominate in a Lakers/Celtics rivalry.. Become a Celtics legend while they draft another player in Kevin Love, only to watch him become an all star and yet win a championship in Cleveland all the while Kevin Garnett is back in Minnesota in the twilight of his career...
20+ years in.. Multiple franchise players, a hall of fame, MVP, game changing talent who is so in love with Minnesota but could never deliver...
Which brings me to the Cavs and just how lucky we are that, unlike Magic fans and Shaq wanting to own them (but fuck those bastards) and KG, coming back in the twilight of that career to be a mentor to young guys for the Wolves— we are ridiculously lucky to not be grouped in with these 2 fan bases...
