I'm fine with low volume/high percentage 3-point shooting. I don't see the value of missing shots, except that a missed 3 has a somewhat higher percentage of an offensive rebound.
If you have an open look, take it. If a defender is closing hard, pump fake and take it to the hole. That's what they've been doing.
Against Washington Okoro had an open shot from the corner but saw the defender closing and went around him for an easy layup. I'd rather have that than clanging one off the rim. Same for Dean Wade - he took one to the hole and drew the foul, converting two free throws.
The Cavs won't stay at 44.3% (nobody shot 38% last year) but if they continue to create open looks and continue to only take good shots from deep they should stay near the top of the league. Garland, Love, Mitchell, Cedi, Wade, and LeVert are pretty accurate when they are not contested.
Take away Okoro's 0-for-5 and Mobley's 1-for-3 and the Cavs are at 47.5%.
