Week #1 - @ KC Rematch!!!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When did I suggest scrapping the scheme? In fact, earlier in this thread I said I agreed with the scheme.

I said there were basically zero disguises. None. Zip. You want to see something a little different here and there.

It was a close game, mostly because our offense took a lot of time off the clock and limited the total number of possessions by the Chiefs. Everyone want to pat each other on the back and go, "Well if we're perfect next time, we probably win!" and I'm just saying, "Eh, our defense didn't look that good to me. It looked easy to dissect."

That's where I'm at as well... they played the right scheme defensively, and it frustrated the Chiefs for over half the game. Then, just like in Super Bowl XXV against the Niners... Mahomes popped a few big quick scores. This is pretty much how it goes against the Chiefs. The key is to do exactly what the Browns were able to accomplish and then don't give it back to them.

What do the Browns need? Young guys making less mistakes, better health, a few replacement level players who saw the field get beat out by others.

But the Chiefs had to play mistake free ball to barely win at home while the Browns made some game changing blunders. That is a strong and positive statement.

I see that as the story, not how Woods ran the right scheme but it's still his fault.

I get it that I should be more glass half full after this game. It’s not that we lost, it’s how we lost after looking so fantastic in the first half (turnovers, special-teams mistakes, bend/don’t break defense against a brand new patchwork OL). I’ll feel better tomorrow, but right now I’m discouraged.

Let’s also not forget we had the first player ejected from a game this season. That shit can’t happen either.

Defense even encouraged me by getting a stop when they absolutely needed one, and getting the ball back. That was huge. I don't know. I really thought they were going to win that.

Did you check the Packers score?

I was watching it. I'm still not going to count them out. Not Aaron Rodgers. Won't do that. They'll get it together.

As for the rest of the teams in the league, I just don't see that many real threats. KC is the only team in our conference that I believe can prevent us from making the Super Bowl.

In the NFC only one of them can get out so we're good there lolololololol.

Three up:

1) Schwartz. He made some great plays today. I know he was the guy who lost a pass late in the game but rookies will do that. Upside is HIGH.
2) Njoku. Made some big catches. Don't think we will let him go. Nice to seem him get some separation and make athletic plays.
3) Malik McDowell. Impacted the game. less in the second half but the D got gassed. He looked really good to me. Excellent find.

Three down:

1) Mack Wilson. He still sucks. I know he's a good dude but same shit new year. Missed tackles, bad angles. There's gotta be a better option on the PS of our team or someone else's team.
2) DPJ. So much for the training camp buzz today. Didn't even notice the guy. I won't say one week means much for a WR but he was supposed to be an impact guy, especially with OBJ out.
3) Special teams. Almost missed an XP, the punt flub, nothing good on returns. Gotta be better than that.
DPJ sealed the corner to open up the grand canyon on Chubb's long TD run. He also came up big with that fourth down reception.

Dude is never going to be OBJ or Jarvis. But he can be a big, bullying receiver that most teams in the NFL would love to have--who also has the ability to win deep.

I'll also add that KC is probably already as good as they're going to be. The only thing they were missing was Mathieu but they don't have any more help or adjustments coming.

We were missing 3 key players today and playing on the road and still made it a game. We won't look like the same team if they see us again but they will most likely look the same as they did today.

The Chiefs had what, 3 or 4 possessions in the 1st half? IMO, the defense didn't really frustrate them, they simply played deep and hoped a dropped pass, missed blocking assignment, penalty, etc... would cause them to punt.

The Chiefs being mistake-free is probably a lot easier when they have the easiest passes to complete. Option routes all day. They were upset on just ONE play where Kelce turned the wrong way - because the defense is predictable and pretty much a lay-up for those option routes.

Obviously we're not giving up 33 points to every team but if we continue to run a conservative defense with no exotic coverages and disguises, we're gonna elevate the floor for a TON of teams.

5 TD 0 INT vs 0 TD 2 INT is about what can be expected from Rodgers and Winston, just not in that order.

Saints beat Tampa Bay in the first game last season and we know how last season ended..................

I could have scripted the vast majority of Browns fans reactions to a loss last Wednesday... the mob decided days ago it's Woods fault.

Then the game is played... it's a Harrison dumb penalty. It's an injury to Wills. It's the defense becoming EXHAUSTED after two long third quarter drives. It's Chubb fumbling, which barely ever happens. It's the damn punter making a game losing play. It's Baker getting hit on a first down sack and forgetting how to manage the pocket that third down. It's timely defense from the Chiefs..

It's death by a thousand papercuts.

So when that happens, and that's exactly what happens... Why raise your hand and volunteer to follow the pre-chosen Twitter gripe from a week ago?

From what I've seen this weekend I think The Browns are a top 5 team. I'm saying this without even seeing The Rams play.

Chiefs
Bucs
Packers
49ers?

Only teams that I'll accept as being better than us this season.
Packers might be expired

This browns team is dangerous! I'll just chalk this game up to learning how to win. With that said we gotta take care of that kicker situation
