Week 12 - Browns (3-7) v. Bucs (5-5)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So basically here's what the Browns need...

TO WIN THE AFC NORTH
-Finish 6-0
-Both Cincinnati AND Baltimore to finish 3-3

This one is gonna be tough.

Baltimore Remaining Schedule
vs. Denver, at Pittsburgh, at Cleveland, vs. Atlanta, vs. Pittsburgh, at Cincinnati

Feels like 4-2 and the AFC North division title for the Ravens.

Cincinnati Remaining Schedule
vs. Kansas City, vs. Cleveland, at Tampa Bay, at New England, vs. Buffalo, vs. Baltimore

3-3 feels more realistic here.

TO EARN AN AFC WILD CARD

Let's assume the following...

Kansas City wins the AFC West
Tennessee wins the AFC South
One of Miami/Buffalo wins the AFC East
One of Cincinnati/Baltimore wins the AFC North
One of Miami/Buffalo gets the 1st Wild Card

That would leave 2 Wild Card spots left and the Browns would need the following...

-To finish 6-0 to get to 10-7

And two of the following to happen...

A 2-4 finish by New York to finish 9-8
A 3-3 finish by New England to finish 9-8
A 3-3 finish by the non AFC North winner Baltimore/Cincinnati to finish 10-7

This feels like a more realistic possibility than both Cincinnati and Baltimore going 3-3.
Thanks for that info. So it's a definite possibility we could win out and still miss the playoffs, which sucks. But we get what we deserve, and that's why I'm salty about our performances in so many winnable games earlier this season.

It it what it is.

The Browns should have won the Jets game, no question. However... I hope everyone has been keeping an eye on the Jets season ever since they stole the Browns game. They are now 7-4 and beat both the 8-3 Bills and 8-3 Dolphins. They are comfortably in that second tier of my AFC contenders. There was no shame in losing to Bob Saleh.
Maybe not if it wasn't such an epic, historical collapse. We should be ashamed as hell for that one IMO.

I don't care if Jesus himself was playing against the Browns. The Browns had no business losing the Jets game the way they did. It was an epic collapse of the worst kind and by itself is enough for Woods to be shit canned.

Both of these things can happen at the same time and still be correct. You can acknowledge that the end of the game was mismanaged. You can acknowledge the players failed in their roles at multiple critical points, regardless of coaching. You can also acknowledge that the Jets were not the pushover franchise we all thought they were that day. All of those can happen at once.

I can acknowledge all of these, and also that Joe Woods' playcalling was completely unacceptable.

We gave them the same zone look Flacco was picking apart, and said "Hey, if your #1 receiver can beat a linebacker, you get a touchdown"

Yep, and "end of the game was mismanaged" seems to include that statement in my eyes. I don't even like focusing on a week two loss after a week twelve win... but after several posts on that subject, I felt it's time to examine the quality of that opponent. The preseason coverage of the Jets was pretty far off.

The one area I would edit in now is, "Our front office seemed to approach the Watson suspension as a hiccup when it should have dramatically changed preparations for the beginning of the season."

That also deserves some hindsight scrutiny, if one is obsessed with hindsight.

Njoku's catch. I was watching the replay, knowing we had won, and I still couldn't believe it.

You don't need to convince me.

I was telling everyone the Jets roster was legit two years ago when everyone was mad that we couldn't beat them without a receiver on our roster.

That team has drafted well, and is well-coached. They're just missing the most important piece--a QB.

You could, but not all of those are true. We lost due to poor discipline and coaching. Both of which are directly related.

I'm still smiling over that Njoku catch.
The easy thing would have been to trade Njoku when he asked for it a couple years ago.

Props to Berry and the team for saving the relationship. This dude can ball and seems like a great teammate and person.

He hugs the shit out of that ball on the way down. That fucker wasn't popping out.
