Week 12: Dolphins @ Browns

Y'all bitching about them throwing in the 2nd half are....silly. Theyre trying to grow an offense. Winning the game was a foregone conclusion. Theyre trying to make the playoffs. Just looking for reasons to bitch.

I am ready to talk myself into Kareem Hunt being a Brown next year. Hear me out:

Why Hunt would want to stay:

1. Other NFL teams don't like spending big money for free agent running backs. Devontae Freeman, Jerrick McKinnon, and Todd Gurley all signed big contracts and then immediately became oft-injured liabilities to the cap. LeVeon Bell signed a monster contract with the Jets, and really hasn't moved the needle with the offense. Hunt can sign for a little less than Duke was supposed to make, which surprisingly made him the tenth highest paid back in the NFL, and continue to be a higher end Duke Johnson in this offense.

2. The Browns had his back when he was demonized by the national media. He made a mistake and has worked his ass off to change the narrative. This is his hometown, and after watching the Haslams back Myles during his suspension, he knows loyalty is a rare thing from management. When I saw Hunt jump into the Dawg Pound, I saw a guy who appreciates the franchise and the community.

3. Playing second fiddle to Chubb extends both player's careers. So far, he has been an important cog in this three game win streak. His blocking and receiving has been timely, obviously the offense has enough touches for him. Chubb was recently quoted saying the following: “We are just getting started. … The sky is the limit with what we can do with us in the backfield and us on the field at the same time. I just look forward to each week going out there and playing with another great player.” I'm not even going to mention how important both players are when somebody is banged up, but when healthy they seem to like this offense.

Damn. How much you think it’s going to cost to retain Hunt? I’d like him to stay for awhile. Hunt and Chubb backfield for a years to come is sickening.

Not as much as you think. I 1st round tender is about 4 mill, 2nd round about 3 mill. So if you are willing to pay Duke 5 mill, you are willing to pay Hunt 4. If someone out bids and we dont match, they have to give us a 1st round pick plus pay him what the offered.

In the end, he will most likely stay, but we will have a 1st or 2nd round pick if he doesnt...most likely 2nd.

Remember how restricted free agency works with the tenders, most likely offer 3 mill a year for 3 years or something, and apply the 2nd round tender, so worst case we get a 2nd rounder back, the same round we took chubb

6 mill for a restricted free agent RB? waaaayyy too much money.....3 year 11 mill is my guess, 2nd round tender, good enough to keep him. Except QB's and a few key players, NFL is way under paid.

Pleased with this outcome. Going up 28-0 before the half was over, against any team, given this team's struggles is encouraging. I really hope they can keep Hunt around.

This team WILL be better next season.

I thought for the most part, the Browns took what the Dolphins gave them, can't ask for much more (except to be more cautious on key downs).

They're beating the Steelers next week. Only wish that bum wasn't benched so that L could be further branded. They struggled to beat the 0-10 Bengals.

Zeke Elliott got what he wanted by the end of training camp, Melvin Gordon played a game of chicken until the season was well underway. Nobody can give a definitive value on Hunt right now because the NFL doesn't have a definitive value on the top running backs and what they deserve.

All that said, I see Mark Ingram signed for three years at five million a year. He has been part of a two back approach his whole career and went to a Pro Bowl. That is about as close as I can see to Hunt's value, but of course his suspension should play a role in the evaluation.

Nobody can give a definitive value on Hunt right now because the NFL doesn't have a definitive value on the top running backs and what they deserve.

Ingram wasn't a restricted free agent nor were the other backs. Further Hunt lost allot of money from the incident, coming off a rookie contract where he didn't make but a mill a year, he really cant afford a holdout like the others could.
