Week 2 (9/20): Titans (1-0) @ Browns (0-1) [1:00 PM EST, CBS]

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Jking's thoughts:

Good:
1) Defense. We looked like a different unit against what is possibly a better offense. The defensive playcalling and gameplan were top notch on worthy of praise. Unfortunately, we got tired towards the end. The offense needs to find a way to stay on the field more and the defense needs to figure out how to shorten possessions. Nonetheless I am pretty happy all around on this side of the ball.

2) Travis Benjamin. He was one of my lone bright spots last week and he was leagues better this week. The guy is turning into a reliable starting receiver. I also love to see the chemistry he has with Johnny. They looked great together today. Which leads me to...

3) Johnny Football. I still don't think he has what it takes to be an NFL QB. And today's game was definitely Tebow-esque. But, he looked much better than last week (albeit against a worse defense) and is not the same player as he was last year. I also think he is getting a bad rep for the second and third quarters, which were just as much the OC's fault as Johnny's. In my opinion we'll need another QB next year but I hope Johnny's trend up continues and he becomes a legitimate NFL starter.

4) Running game looked better. Still would like to see more but it functioned effectively. I don't think we have enough firepower here, though, to play against good run defenses.

Bad:
1) Offensive playcalling. God this was shit. Flip may be the worse coordinator we've had since Mangini's tenure. The pass plays were usually basic routes that were easy to cover. We ran the same two running plays the entire game. And the QB sneak on 4th down was idiotic. This is an area that has to improve if we want to win more than five games.

2) Receiving corp sans Benjamin. To be honest, I watched the game on TV, so this point can be totally wrong. But it seemed to me that the receivers as a general rule could not get open. Benjamin was very good, Hawkins was average, and the rest were mediocre at best.

Overall I am really impressed. I still think we go 5-11, but before this game I thought it would be 3-13, so I'm revising to my original prediction. Go Browns!

Finished the replay about an hour ago. A lot to say which has pretty much been covered above.

Main three points:

- Defense looked like night and day from last week to this.
- Benjamin is such a huge X factor for this team.
- I'm back on the Manziel bandwagon and I intend to remain on as long as Cleveland-y possible.

Aside from all the nonsense this franchise dishes out, there's not a lot of things more exciting than a Browns win. I almost threw my computer screen out my office window when Johnny threw that last TD to Benjamin I was that uncontrollably ecstatic!

What happened late in the 2nd quarter when Mariota fumbled the ball at the 40 yard line and the Browns recovered it but they called it back? I couldn't hear the official over all of the boos.

It was a delay of game prior to the snap, but the refs were idiots and let the play continue, and then called the penalty after.

That's pretty Cleveland.

They also never threw a flag.

Agreed on all points. So happy for that win, for Johnny, for the Browns, for Cleveland.
I'm on the Manziel bandwagon, for better or worse. I want him to be good, not just for the team, but to stick it to the "Not an NFL QB" crowd who would rather prefer a QB off the Michigan State Generic Assembly Line.

Get back on that McCown kamikaze!
