Average yards per play was 9.5 to 4.7. 9.5 would've lead the league by a lot and 4.7 would've been 30th. Browns really dominated much of the game. Burrow was at 5.2 yards per attempts and when you factor in sacks, Bengals were under 5 per pass play. That is just really good by the Browns.
5 for 5 on 4th down is obviously unacceptable, but also not sustainable. Bengals also had a 30+ yard advantage in penalties and 3 times started at the 39 or better after a kick. All that and Cincy still needed a garbage time TD to keep it within single digits.
This was a really good performance in many facets, and much of the stuff that went wrong is correctable. Secondary is still ass, but when you're down 4 starters in your back 7, that will happen.
I am encouraged. Way more than I was after we beat the Jets in week 2 last year.
I like to compare last year to this year because week 1 in both years was so similar.
Great point on last year’s Jets games versus this game. A much better performance from the Browns - it was the offensive system our head coach promised, Bengals didn’t shoot themselves in the foot a couple times like the Jets did, and of course the Browns put up 35 points, not 20ish. Just a much more comprehensive bounce back win compared to week 2 last year.
