Week 3 2018 | Jets at Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't have a problem with Hue not immediately handing Baker the job after the game. Everyone knows he's going to start, but let him tell Tyrod in private before announcing it to the world.

Tyrod deserves that at least.

I've been in a coma for 635 days, what did I miss?!?!

Guys.. fellas. I did my best to rep most posts in the 2nd half.

Watching mayfield in college was so much fun, i can only hope today is just the start.

Feel for Tyrod, but there's no question we look like a different team when Baker is out there. Hand him the keys and don't look back.

Reading back on this game thread was unbelievable.

The game for me started at 10:15am local time. I last-minute rain-checked a couple of client meetings 'til next week, just in case something remarkable happened today. And it sure as hell did.

I think what makes this win so special is that it's symbolic of so much more in so many ways. Browns are down 0-14, Taylor (who we knew was only starting @ QB until his expiration date arrived) was garbage and the fans were on edge. Everything was about to meltdown.

Enter Baker.

Kid came in like a 15 year future HoF-er and carried this team to victory. It wasn't even just his reality-defying accuracy or his arm strength; he had such poise, patience and command. Kid oozes in charisma and the whole energy in the stadium flipped 180-degrees when he entered.

I think what made the win so special is that it wasn't just the first Browns win in nearly 2 years, but the introduction of the new face of the franchise. Baker came in and began his legend tonight in the most incredible way possible and offered us more than hope. He's a winner and he's more than a guy we need to "be patient with" or "develop into the QB of the future." He is the QB of now, that elusive conductor that has evaded this football franchise for decades.

So yes, while we broke the "winless" streak, tonight was about way more than a W. Tonight was the night that'll be remembered in Browns lore as the day winning football returned to Cleveland, Ohio.

Tyrod did his job and was worth the third. He showed Baker how to prepare for the offseason, camp, a home game, a road game, and a short week game. I thought a few more weeks would be best but it is clear Baker needs to start, and having 11 days to prep is perfect for his first start. Remember, the Jets did not gameplan for Baker. Oakland will.

Notes...

My calls for Chubb have been quieted for at least one week as Hyde had his best game of the season by far. I still think Chubb and Duke are more explosive, but Hyde has loads of experience - going back to college and his time with the 49ers -running inside reads out of the shotgun. With Baker under center, that can and should continue to be a big part of the offense moving forward.

Three weeks in now, it's pretty clear that the Browns "base" offense is 11 personnel with Callaway and Higgins wide, Landry in the slot, Njoku tight on the line and Hyde in the backfield.

Browns week 3 snap counts

Defense (63 plays)
Defensive Line

Larry Ogunjobi 60
Myles Garrett 57
Trevon Coley 54
Chris Smith 41
Anthony Zettel 6
Carl Davis 4
Chad Thomas 4

Linebackers
Joe Schobert 63
Jamie Collins 61
Genard Avery 36
James Burgess 19

Cornerbacks

Denzel Ward 62
Terrance Mitchell 57
TJ Carrie 37

Safeties

Damarious Randall 62
Jabrill Peppers 40
Derrick Kindred 30

Garrett and Ogunjobi are just freaks. Straight up. Those two guys have played 96.7% and 92.5% of the defensive snaps respectively through three games. Gregg is leaning on them hard and they're both stepping up to the plate.

Gregg is doing a lot of different things defensively.

Peppers and Kindred are on the field at the same time a pretty reasonable amount with Peppers playing a nickel linebacker role at times. Sometimes they're both at safety with Randall sliding down and straight up playing slot corner. Avery continues to work as an edge rusher and off the ball as an outside linebacker.

It's kind of incredible that the Browns are doing so well when you consider they're essentially only playing 3 cornerbacks each week even though every team in the league is basically using 11 personnel (3WR, 1 TE) as their standard formation.

Might be biased, but that was the loudest I've heard a stadium over a tv in a long time. Sounded like a playoff game.

I actually respect Darnold, he played well within his limited gameplan.

My God was that fun.
