Week #3 Spring Training - March 8-14

Manzardo with a gift double (lost in the sun) in the 1st. JRod follows with a walk. His stock is definitely rising. Brito flies out to right to end the inning.

Let see if Ortiz can show something today, gives up a lead off single…

Ortiz is not having a good spring

I'm not 100% surprised... I am guessing he is working on something to advance his career (Aka he only threw hard stuff, so he needs a slower pitch on paper).

Mar told to prepare for a looooooong season. Getting mopped by Slam Diego's A lineup.

Padres are beating the shit out of us… 6-0 all runs scored with two outs in the first.

At least the bases are empty now

Let’s see if we can muster a counterattack against Darvish, would be a nice confidence booster.

Not sure why Vogt pulled Ortiz in the first inning after just 24 pitchers. Why not let him get some work and try to get out of a jam. Instead, Vogt yanked Ortiz and put in a non-prospect reliever Richardson who promptly got shelled by the Padres. Make it make sense.

Edit: Ortiz back in the second inning. If this was the plan why not leave him in to close out the first inning?

They keep on talking about consistency in mechanics needs to be straightened out. He still is throwing his 4 pitches as last year (no change up today). And it is not like the ump is helping him as a few could have been challenged. (right on the box if it is linked to their challenge system).

Because you just want them to take a deep breathe and work in the 2nd with clean slate. No sense making them overwork and possibly cause injury when you can replace them and bring them back next inning as it is still so early getting their length. (length is not just getting to 80-100 pitches total but working up to 25+ pitch inning and coming back next inning).

Ok that makes some sense for Ortiz but why was Richardson brought in from among the numerous available relief options?

Getting shalacked already, eh?

Can’t wait till late March!
