Week 5: Browns @ Titans (1:00 P.M. CBS)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So the way to solve the problem is to see no punishment for anyone? If this had happened to one of our guys folks would be frothing at the mouth, wanting blood. I don't remember the Titans ever knocking our QB out like this, at least not recently enough that claiming retaliation makes it a-ok.
Locker wasn't knocked out of the game from the Kirksey hit. He left the game after injuring his hand while in the pocket and hitting it off of a Williams? on a blitz

I never said Kirksey shouldn't be punished. In hindsight, we all got to witness a dropkick to Lannings facemask in week 1. Antonio Brown received a $8,500 fine for doing that. So, Kirksey should, in my eyes, only get a fine since his hit didn't knock Locker out of the game. I could see a suspension if his hit did knock him out, but it didn't.

So because Locker was not immediately removed on a play where it was obvious he got his bell rung, that makes the hit OK? Locker didn't roll over to catch his breath, his head got snapped back. And again, I understand that Brown did something dirty to LAnning- so now that hit is OK because Kirksey's was? Or Kirskey's is allowed because a Steeler did something and was not punished more? I just don't get how that makes what Kirksey does OK. IF anything, other team's fans can justify going after a Browns player because Kirksey did it to Locker.

I didn't like the hit that Kirksey put on Locker. But the hit never caused Locker to leave the game. It was just an unsportmanlike penalty that didn't result in a player leaving the game injured. There's already been at least 4 hits this season (not just Browns games) that a QB was hit in the head. No injuries occurred and nothing more than the player getting a fine. So no, Kirksey's hit is not okay. If the league is going to be consistent with penalties handed out for similar plays, then Kirksey deserves no more than a fine.

So that was incredible but I'm still really nervous about the defense. Maybe Pettine isn't that great of a D coach and he was just able to take credit for good jobs by Rex Ryan and Marrone.

If this team doesn't have Kyle Shannahan we're 0-4. Defense was supposed to be your calling card. Instead we've seen them majorly regress in almost every facet.

I really wanted us to draft Mack but I'm not writing Gilbert off yet. CB is probably the second hardest position to transition to behind QB. I'm willing to give him time to learn and acclimate. I'm far more worried about Haden. Maybe he just can't be good with the new rules.

I'm going to be honest about the hit, and it's definitely not the consensus.

If Locker stays on his feet, which he could have done, he gets hit in the chest. Locker slides so low that he gets hit in the head by the forearm. Kirksey is obviously targeting a hit (albeit, he left his feet as Locker was coming into the endzone), but it wasn't intentional to get him with what basically amounted to an uppercut.

Fine, sure, absolutely. Suspension? Really? Go watch Julias Thomas' chopblock and ask which was more deliberate.

Dirty play is something that has proven time and again to be a part of good defenses. While it obviously sucks for Locker that he got knocked out of the game, they probably wouldn't have won the game with him out there and the cheap-shots caused the Titans to retaliate at all the wrong times and got the Browns multiple penalties in their favor late in the game.

I'd have hated the play if it had been on Hoyer, but that's the kind of stuff that makes opposing QB's think twice about taking a run at the EZ. Dirty play is generally a net positive if the talent is there, like it or not.

Locker bitched out and tried to slide into the end zone. Yeah right. You gotta make the statement that if you're going for the goal line, you're going to get punished. He got punished. Loved the play by Kirksey. And like someone said above, if Locker hadn't tried to slide he wouldn't have taken the hit to his skull.

If Kirksey is suspended, I'll be livid. Also I think that was a sneaky turning point of the game IMO. Tennessee scored a couple TDs after that, but it set the tone for the rest of the game. Levitre getting "payback" against Kirksey in the 2nd half was a huge play in the Browns' favor, and some of the chippiness and skirmishes served as a wake up call.

I'm interested to see how much the defenses regression is due to the new rules. I expected the run defense to cave a bit, I remember some radio analyst saying these scheme gives up rushing yards but it may be all out of whack as CB adjust to the new rules? IDK I hope thats the case and our secondary just doesn't blow this bad.

That wasn't even the play that knocked him out. It was the Skrine, weird, jump tackle that did it.

Yeah, I know. Both plays were dirty.

Yeah, don't think the Skrine one was at all. He jumped to try and bat down a pass. He swiped Locker on the helmet (automatic penalty) but it was barely a graze. Not his fault Locker smacked his hand on Skrine's helmet.

It was a filthy play. Watching it again, I'm honestly disgusted by it and those of you who support that type of action.

Really? I'm kind of surprised by that... Yeah, it ended up dirty. It was a roughing penalty because he swiped Locker's helmet, but he was blitzing. You want him to give up on the blitz, or try to bat the ball down? I'm positive Skrine wasn't trying to hurt Locker's thumb.

He should have hurdled Locker using his shoulders.
