They can bench Baker and go back to him next week. Nobody is going to cry if they do that.
If he's too hurt to play, then sure.
But if they bench him purely for performance, that's it. Baker's done.
And this has nothing to do with what the fans think. An NFL team can't jerk around their starting QB and expect to maintain their locker room. That position has to have stability.
For better or worse, they have to stick with Mayfield unless he's physically too injured to take the snaps.
