Week #7 - Denver Broncos @ Cleveland Browns (-4.5) - 8:20 p.m. on Fox

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So unless an opponent pulls out a bat (or a helmet), Myles shouldn’t expect to get these calls… smgdh

Next week penalties are gonna be like 20-0

That insane no call hold on Myles?

He ended up getting credit for the sack because he tackled Ted for no gain. Hysterical.
Nice. So another game with a sack by both Myles and Clowney.
And ironically, neither one of them actually "bodied" Bridgewater to get their sacks. Both were shoestring grasps that knocked him off balance.

Fuck commenting on the sleeves this week, Myles needs to tweet on that ridiculous no call

Think we could squeak out a win against Pittsburgh in Cleveland, but even that isn't a guarantee with the injuries and Keenum as QB. Bengals in Cincinnati is a tough one with or without Baker. Maybe could beat the Patriots?

There being three wild card spots may really work in the Brown's favor at the end of the year. Rest of the teams (outside of division leaders) in the AFC are falling behind and don't look very good. Bengals, Chiefs, and Browns seem like the most likely candidates.

Hell of a win. Loved D'Ernest's running.

What I didn't love was another week of officials screwing the Browns over on no-calls or bullshit calls, almost always resulting in the opponent eating up chunks of yardage. REALLY tired of seeing people getting away with holding Myles. I swear that kind of officiating is part of the "unspoken rules". Myles always gets it, but certain teams with "prolific passers" often have offensive lines that hold all day in the same fashion, with no flag.

Hope Landry is OK.

Keenum was OK. He does some things I wish Baker would do (more screens and quick passes), and Baker of course does a lot of things I was looking for Case to do. Secondary still getting caught on some of the most ridiculous things, was surprised they called OFFENSIVE pass interference for a change. This defense, Joe Woods not withstanding might be better than they look. I know I like the LBs and the pass rush (if the refs would allow the rush to actually happen).

You do realize the scheme will not change if a defensive coordinator is fired mid-season right? That's not how it works. One of his own assistants would get the promotion and the season is basically an understood tank job.

BTW - they don't fire defensive coordinators after a win, baby!
He's horrible at calling plays and he doesn't know that you're allowed to make in game adjustments.

I'm actually for keeping him the rest of the season because I agree with you about the negative consequences of firing a defensive coordinator mid season, especially with the way ours is hanging by a thread. But you can't possibly actually think he's a good defensive coordinator after seeing 1 and almost a half seasons worth of him? You're just trolling, right?

Probably. It took our secondary making 1 play out of what? 17? and the ref trying to inexplicably give them two awful free first down spots and ignore holding on half the drive.

I don’t love Woods but I think his strategy was sound tonight. Make Denver go on 3 methodical drives to beat you. They didn’t have a chance for the 3rd one.
I could have gotten on board with the strategy if our offense had far fewer injuries and we were likely to put up 30 points, but it was a poor game plan given the circumstances. That's been my biggest gripe with Woods - he does not seem to have any situational awareness whatsoever and seems extremely stubborn and unwilling to pivot when his plan is obviously flawed. He seems like the guy who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room when he's actually not even close. Actually might be why he's got people dying on hills for him lol.

The talent gap and very good coaching on the offensive side of the ball won us the game, in spite of Woods. He's had 2 games in his tenure with us that he wasn't criminally bad. I was hoping last year was just the talent level, but he's making that really hard to believe.

I want him to get the rest of the season to see if he can turn it around, I'm just not seeing a single thing that gives me any confidence that he will. Which is unfortunate because I've got almost unlimited confidence in nearly every other coach on this team.

I thought Woods called a damn good game today. Only play I didn't care for was the Broncos 1st TD where we gave them an incredibly soft cushion. But who knows if that was completely on Woods or not.

Other than that, he called a great game here. He had our dudes in the right position, and our d-line sort of underperformed in the pass rush at times. Broncos offense only generated yards on really tough catches and a few really good plays on their side.
Can you give some examples? I'd genuinely like to see them because I didn't see anything that made me feel that way.

He's just sticking to his guns and fighting the good fight. Fans are loyal when they love an initial coach hiring and do all the background work as to why and just ride it out. Woods can win me over vs Baltimore. He had no answer for Lamar, Ravens averaged 40+ vs Woods.

Woods deserves little to no love. Beating the Broncos in a game you should win doesn't take away the shit sandwiches of scoring 42 and losing.

They only had 2 first downs in the 1st half, one of which came off a tough 1-handed catch by Sutton, the other off a shortened down (1st and 5) due to an encroachment penalty. Even with their QB, that's insane. It seemed like we ran a lot of cover 3 which can be tough to beat for QBs who don't throw downfield (the seams) well enough. Herbert and Murray killed our cover 3 but Teddy didn't. Our players executed and gave up little yardage on the flats.

They were able to move the ball a lot more in the 2nd half as it looks like we switched to more cover 4 and cover 6. Lots of little dig routes, short posts, and Teddy making some good passes on broken plays. It sucked to them go down the field, but it didn't look very easy for them, and I believe they only had three total drives in the 2nd half. They used up so much time on both their scores, and we used up so much time on our score and our final drive. That was by design. I didn't like the call on the first TD but that's about it.

And I think it was the right design. Don't give them any chance to have cheap/quick scores and take the victory no matter how ugly it looked. Say what you want about Denver being bad but we did our job on defense in terms of yardage and points given up.

Apparently, the rule is... it's not holding, even if it looks like it, if the defender uses a "rip" technique that causes the lineman to move his feet with the movement of the defender.

Some bullshit, because they go way too far with that. I've seen two people basically on Myles's back... and he still got the sack.

But what you are describing is not at all what happened at least on this play. There are at least 3 separate "holds" that could have and should have been called.

Keenum did fine for what he is, but Denver is awful. I can't think of another game on the schedule they can win with him at QB. Baker had better get himself right.
