Week Five Waiver & Trade Targets; Pray for Dwayne Haskins

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thoughts on my RBs?

I have:

Josh Jacobs
LeSean McCoy
Chris Thompson
Malcolm Brown

On waivers:

Jaylen Samuels
Tevin Coleman
Carlos Hyde
Duke Johnson
Damien Williams
Darrel Williams
Miles Sanders
Rashaad Penny

100% drop Brown for Samuels, Sanders, or Damien Williams. How the fuck are those guys on waivers to begin with?

Brown basically only has value if Gurley gets hurt or the game turns into garbage time with the Rams up big.

I have a claim in on Samuels dropping Brown - he clears waivers Saturday. I held him early in case Gurley wasn't able to come back healthy.

Who would you guys start this week, Russell Wilson or Phillip Rivers? I know Wilson has been a little better this year, but the Rams front 4 is solid and Denver just lost Chubb for the season. So I'm a little torn right now.

thanks, it's an 8 team league. Some of the names available are Eifert, Cook, Ebron, Doyle, Fant, V. Davis. None of those seem to be doing all that great, so maybe I'll just stick with Howard and hope he turns it around.

Ebron is the best right now, but the highest ceiling is Fant. Eventually the front office will want to see him featured.

Tough call. I think I'd go with Rivers because I think that the Rams are going to be gassed tonight and really struggle on the road after playing a brutal game over the weekend that saw about two games' worth of plays ran. Goff threw 68 passes on Sunday and I believe the Rams ran about 95 total plays. Tonight could be a blowout and Seattle is going to want to pound the ball and take advantage of the Rams' poor run defense.

But honestly I think both guys will probably have decent weeks.

FYI, not going to do a full start/sit article tonight, so I'll just list my recommendations in this thread for tonight's game and write an article for Sunday/Monday either tomorrow or Saturday. Just had a day from hell at work and am going to go drink some beers instead of spending an hour putting together an article.

I'm also going to change up the formatting this week. I'm going to use this season as a chance to experiment with some different article types to see what works best and what you guys find most entertaining. This week, I'm going to go game by game and give a brief game summary, detail the over/unders, and then list my start and sit choices.

Once I drop the article, let me know if you guys prefer the new format or the previous one, or if you have any different ideas for how to structure a column.

Anyway, for tonight's game...

Seahawks vs. Rams - Over/Under 49

The Rams are coming off a grueling loss against the Bucs that saw about double the normal amount of plays called. Now they're on the road in one of the NFL's toughest stadiums to play in. If that doesn't spell a recipe for disaster, I don't know what does.

Start:

Chris Carson - There's a very good chance that the Seahawks are going to run the ball a lot tonight. The Rams are weak against the run, and their defense is probably gassed from Sunday's game. Unless you've got multiple studs at the RB position, Carson should be plugged into your line-up tonight.

Cooper Kupp - Kupp is firmly establishing himself as a fantasy stud this season and should be in every lineup. He's also the slot guy and safety net for Goff. He's going to have his ups and downs like every player, but we've seen his ceiling and it is a WR1. Start your studs.

Tyler Lockett - Much like Kupp, Lockett is bordering on stud territory this season. You should be starting him over most receivers, depending on your line-ups.

Sit:

Jared Goff - Goff has really been struggling with turnovers this season and I wouldn't feel confident starting him on the road on Thursday night.

DK Metcalf - Metcalf has seen a lot of red zone targets this season, but as of right now I see him as an inconsistent player that should only be started in leagues with expanded starters. It's certainly possible he goes off tonight, or just catches a single long touchdown bomb that makes him a worthwhile start, but you'd be rolling the dice. In season-long leagues, I like to start guys for their floors, and Metcalf's floor is really low right now.

Holy shit. Is that a 8 team league or something?

Tonight is looking like his third consecutive dominant fantasy performance.

I feel like he, Godwin, and Lockett have entered stud status.

In my main dynasty league my top four receivers are Hopkins, Allen, Godwin, and Lockett and that is going to frustrate the fuck out of me all year because I can only start three at most and will absolutely never pick the right guys any week.

I didn't listen to you.

By the way, you are doing a great job with this series. Overall you are helping people. Just last week one of the lawyers on retainer for the city I live in was asking me about waiver wire pickups. I do love how fantasy football transcends social Dynamics if you are good at bucking what the national talking heads believe. Keep up the great work.

Will there be a week 6 edition?

Yeah, probably around 8 or 9 tonight. Planning to do one of these every week, along with a start/sit. I'll do a third column like my week four musings one if I have time and have something I want to write about, but those will not be every week since there won't always be a reason for one.

In the offseason, I'll probably take January and February off before getting into draft and combine stuff in late March or early April. It'll mostly be dynasty focused until training camp and the preseason start, at which point we'll transition back to a combination of redraft and dynasty, and maybe some DFS as well depending on how well I do with it this year. Don't want to write about it if I don't make some money, as then I won't be of help to you guys.
